SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3recognize Sue Bustin on her service as medical caseworker of
4the Joliet Township Government Office for more than two
5decades; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Sue Bustin was born and raised in Joliet,
7graduating from Joliet East High School and obtaining her
8associate's degree from Joliet Junior College; she proceeded
9to attend Illinois Masonic Medical Center School of Nursing
10and earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of
11Wisconsin; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Sue Bustin was hired as medical caseworker of the
13Joliet Township Government Office on June 17, 2002, where she
14worked until her retirement on December 26, 2025; and
 
15    WHEREAS, In her role as medical caseworker, Sue Bustin
16provided Joliet Township residents with information on
17available community resources and was responsible for
18assisting residents who were awaiting short- or long-term
19disability through the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and
20Social Security Disability (SSD) programs as well as worker's
21compensation, personal injury settlements, or were off work
22due to health issues; through the Joliet Township General

1Assistance welfare program, she also assisted with rent,
2mortgage, or utility payments while residents waited for their
3benefits to be approved; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Sue Bustin's duties included running the Joliet
5Township's medical loan closet, always guaranteeing that those
6in need were able to obtain the proper equipment required;
7under her guidance, the medical loan closet expanded
8significantly, and it now provides a wide range of medical
9equipment and supplies; she further represented the township
10at Community Cares Program meetings with the Joliet Fire
11Department and worked with Share Fest to ensure the township's
12micro pantries were fully stocked; and
 
13    WHEREAS, During her tenure, Sue Bustin was noted for
14serving her clients with attentiveness, compassion, and
15empathy, and her selfless efforts were previously recognized
16when she was named one of the 2017 Herald News Everyday Heroes;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, Sue Bustin has remained active in her community,
19serving as a four-time president of the American Legion Post
201080 Auxiliary, a past president of both the Will County
21American Legion Auxiliary and the 11th District American
22Legion Auxiliary, a longtime member of the Abraham Lincoln
23National Cemetery Support Committee, a 30-year member of the

1Exchange Club, a five-year member and two-year president of
2the Will County Humane Society Board, and a volunteer for
3Honor Flight Chicago, Operation Care Package, the Special
4Olympics, and various breast cancer causes; she has also
5visited veterans at Hope Manor Joliet and local nursing homes;
6therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Sue
9Bustin for her service and dedication as medical caseworker of
10the Joliet Township Government Office for 23 and a half years;
11and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to Sue Bustin as an expression of our esteem and
14respect.
