SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to recognize Sue Bustin on her service as medical caseworker of the Joliet Township Government Office for more than two decades; and

WHEREAS, Sue Bustin was born and raised in Joliet, graduating from Joliet East High School and obtaining her associate's degree from Joliet Junior College; she proceeded to attend Illinois Masonic Medical Center School of Nursing and earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin; and

WHEREAS, Sue Bustin was hired as medical caseworker of the Joliet Township Government Office on June 17, 2002, where she worked until her retirement on December 26, 2025; and

WHEREAS, In her role as medical caseworker, Sue Bustin provided Joliet Township residents with information on available community resources and was responsible for assisting residents who were awaiting short- or long-term disability through the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability (SSD) programs as well as worker's compensation, personal injury settlements, or were off work due to health issues; through the Joliet Township General Assistance welfare program, she also assisted with rent, mortgage, or utility payments while residents waited for their benefits to be approved; and

WHEREAS, Sue Bustin's duties included running the Joliet Township's medical loan closet, always guaranteeing that those in need were able to obtain the proper equipment required; under her guidance, the medical loan closet expanded significantly, and it now provides a wide range of medical equipment and supplies; she further represented the township at Community Cares Program meetings with the Joliet Fire Department and worked with Share Fest to ensure the township's micro pantries were fully stocked; and

WHEREAS, During her tenure, Sue Bustin was noted for serving her clients with attentiveness, compassion, and empathy, and her selfless efforts were previously recognized when she was named one of the 2017 Herald News Everyday Heroes; and

WHEREAS, Sue Bustin has remained active in her community, serving as a four-time president of the American Legion Post 1080 Auxiliary, a past president of both the Will County American Legion Auxiliary and the 11th District American Legion Auxiliary, a longtime member of the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Support Committee, a 30-year member of the Exchange Club, a five-year member and two-year president of the Will County Humane Society Board, and a volunteer for Honor Flight Chicago, Operation Care Package, the Special Olympics, and various breast cancer causes; she has also visited veterans at Hope Manor Joliet and local nursing homes; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Sue Bustin for her service and dedication as medical caseworker of the Joliet Township Government Office for 23 and a half years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Sue Bustin as an expression of our esteem and respect.
