SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 
3congratulate Southwestern Illinois College Basketball Head 
4Coach Jay Harrington on his career accomplishments; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Coach Harrington, head coach at Southwestern 
6Illinois College since 1979, has compiled a record of 1007 
7Illinois wins, making him one of the winningest coaches in 
8Illinois basketball history; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Coach Harrington's teams have won seven NJCAA 
10Region 24 championships, six Great Rivers Athletic Conference 
11titles, reached the final 16 three times, and placed 4th and 
126th in the NJCAA Tournament; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Coach Harrington earned 17 coach of the year 
14awards and is in four basketball halls of fame, and the 
15Southwestern Illinois College basketball court is named in his 
16honor; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Coach Harrington and has served as an assistant 
18coach and head coach on numerous USA Basketball and NJCCA 
19international basketball teams, and as the head coach, his 
20teams earned Gold Medals in 1991 and 1993; and

1    WHEREAS, Coach Harrington was presented with the NJCAA 
2Legacy Award in 2025; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL 
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate 
5Southwestern Illinois College Basketball Head Coach Jay 
6Harrington on his career accomplishments, and we wish him the 
7best in all his future endeavors; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9presented to Coach Harrington as a symbol of our respect and 
10esteem.
