SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Milton Chandler, who passed away on
4March 9, 2026; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Milton Chandler was born in Chicago to Milton
6Chandler Sr. and Leaster Cooper on November 7, 1949; he
7attended Oakenwald Elementary School, Arthur Dixon Elementary
8School, and Hirsch Metropolitan High School; he married
9Dorothy M. Graham on August 21, 1972; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Milton Chandler spent a few years working at the
11Chicago Public Schools and the Chicago Post Office before
12becoming interested in the natural health sciences; he
13received a bachelor's degree in naprapathic science from the
14Chicago College of Naprapathy in 1977; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Milton Chandler became a Chicago firefighter in
161995 and was stationed at Firehouse Engine 82/Truck 42 on 91st &
17 Cottage Grove; he spent a number of years at the Chicago Fire
18Prevention Bureau South until retirement and frequently
19volunteered and provided services for health fairs around
20Chicago; he and his wife participated in lobbying state
21legislators during a licensing effort for Illinois Colon
22Hydrotherapists; he was an active member of the American

1Naprapathic Association and the International Association of
2Colon Hydrotherapy until his retirement; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Milton Chandler was affectionately known as
4"Chan" or "Junie"; he was a protector, a devoted father, and
5proud grandfather; he enjoyed books of all types, learning and
6sharing, and museums and cultural events around Chicago; he
7also enjoyed flying kites with his grandchildren, singing to
8them, and stepping and dusties; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Milton Chandler was preceded in death by his
10parents; his grandparents, Odie and Maude Cooper and Merrell
11and Oneida Beatrice Washington Chandler; his son, Chakra P.
12Chandler; his brother, Peter Beasley; his aunt, Ola M. Cooper;
13and his cousins, Eugene Cooper and Gail Swanagain; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Milton Chandler is survived by his wife of 53
15years, Dorothy; his children, Shana Chandler (Efe Edosomwan),
16LaVonne (Phillip) Senanou, Richard Chandler, Milton A.
17(Arlene) Chandler, Jonathan M. (Candice) Chandler, and Ronell
18(Stormy) Harmon; his nephew, Saleem (Mark) Beasley; his
19nieces, Tené Beasley and Nicole Beasley; his cousins, Rosalyn
20Chandler McLaurin, Guido Chandler, Merrionna Chandler-Pierce,
21Marlena Chandler, Merrill Reuben Chandler III, Merrillyn
22Chandler, Patti Chandler, Lois Chandler, LaTanya (Anthony)
23Clark, JoAnna Swanagain, and Sheldon Yarber; his

1grandchildren, Malcolm Tucker, Maya Tucker, and Jaden (Shana)
2Edosomwan, Stephanie, Alex, and Matthew (LaVonne) Senanou,
3Cintrella, Dahnesha, Richard J., Eric, and Gabrielle (Richard)
4Chandler, Maasai (Milton A.) Chandler, Camden, Cassidy, and
5Carrington (Jonathan) Chandler, and Riley M. (Ronell) Harmon;
6his great-grandchildren, Kimora (Cintrella) Chandler and Miles
7(Eric) Chandler; and numerous extended family and close
8friends; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Milton Chandler and extend our sincere condolences to his
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Milton Chandler as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
