SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Milton Chandler, who passed away on March 9, 2026; and

WHEREAS, Milton Chandler was born in Chicago to Milton Chandler Sr. and Leaster Cooper on November 7, 1949; he attended Oakenwald Elementary School, Arthur Dixon Elementary School, and Hirsch Metropolitan High School; he married Dorothy M. Graham on August 21, 1972; and

WHEREAS, Milton Chandler spent a few years working at the Chicago Public Schools and the Chicago Post Office before becoming interested in the natural health sciences; he received a bachelor's degree in naprapathic science from the Chicago College of Naprapathy in 1977; and

WHEREAS, Milton Chandler became a Chicago firefighter in 1995 and was stationed at Firehouse Engine 82/Truck 42 on 91st & Cottage Grove; he spent a number of years at the Chicago Fire Prevention Bureau South until retirement and frequently volunteered and provided services for health fairs around Chicago; he and his wife participated in lobbying state legislators during a licensing effort for Illinois Colon Hydrotherapists; he was an active member of the American Naprapathic Association and the International Association of Colon Hydrotherapy until his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Milton Chandler was affectionately known as "Chan" or "Junie"; he was a protector, a devoted father, and proud grandfather; he enjoyed books of all types, learning and sharing, and museums and cultural events around Chicago; he also enjoyed flying kites with his grandchildren, singing to them, and stepping and dusties; and

WHEREAS, Milton Chandler was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Odie and Maude Cooper and Merrell and Oneida Beatrice Washington Chandler; his son, Chakra P. Chandler; his brother, Peter Beasley; his aunt, Ola M. Cooper; and his cousins, Eugene Cooper and Gail Swanagain; and

WHEREAS, Milton Chandler is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy; his children, Shana Chandler (Efe Edosomwan), LaVonne (Phillip) Senanou, Richard Chandler, Milton A. (Arlene) Chandler, Jonathan M. (Candice) Chandler, and Ronell (Stormy) Harmon; his nephew, Saleem (Mark) Beasley; his nieces, Tené Beasley and Nicole Beasley; his cousins, Rosalyn Chandler McLaurin, Guido Chandler, Merrionna Chandler-Pierce, Marlena Chandler, Merrill Reuben Chandler III, Merrillyn Chandler, Patti Chandler, Lois Chandler, LaTanya (Anthony) Clark, JoAnna Swanagain, and Sheldon Yarber; his grandchildren, Malcolm Tucker, Maya Tucker, and Jaden (Shana) Edosomwan, Stephanie, Alex, and Matthew (LaVonne) Senanou, Cintrella, Dahnesha, Richard J., Eric, and Gabrielle (Richard) Chandler, Maasai (Milton A.) Chandler, Camden, Cassidy, and Carrington (Jonathan) Chandler, and Riley M. (Ronell) Harmon; his great-grandchildren, Kimora (Cintrella) Chandler and Miles (Eric) Chandler; and numerous extended family and close friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Milton Chandler and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Milton Chandler as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
