| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly are |
| 3 | | pleased to honor individuals whose dedicated service has |
| 4 | | enriched the lives of residents throughout the State of |
| 5 | | Illinois; and |
| 6 | | WHEREAS, The Village of Palos Park has requested that a |
| 7 | | portion of Southwest Highway, generally located between 12600 |
| 8 | | and 13100, be designated as "Dave Sanders Way" in recognition |
| 9 | | of David Sanders and his family's extraordinary and |
| 10 | | longstanding contributions to the community and the greater |
| 11 | | Chicagoland region; and |
| 12 | | WHEREAS, For more than 90 years, the Sanders family has |
| 13 | | served as steward of The Center in Palos Park, a unique and |
| 14 | | cherished institution founded in 1932 by Reverend Paul T. |
| 15 | | Sanders and his wife, Elizabeth Sanders, with the vision of |
| 16 | | creating a place of peace, service, and spiritual connection |
| 17 | | for all; and |
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Over the decades, The Center has grown into a |
| 19 | | vital regional resource encompassing approximately 65 acres on |
| 20 | | both the east and west sides of Southwest Highway, continuing |
| 21 | | to enrich the lives of individuals and families across |
| 22 | | generations; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, The Center's mission is to provide people of all |
| 2 | | faiths, backgrounds, and ages with the space to dream, grow, |
| 3 | | and become fully alive physically, mentally, emotionally, and |
| 4 | | spiritually; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Under the quiet and dedicated leadership of David |
| 6 | | Sanders, The Center has remained a place of inclusion, growth, |
| 7 | | and service, offering a wide range of programs and resources, |
| 8 | | including a sanctuary for worship, counseling, and reflection |
| 9 | | through the Wayside Chapel, agricultural education through the |
| 10 | | Children's Farm, youth camp programs, early childhood |
| 11 | | education through the Farm and Nature Discovery School, arts |
| 12 | | programming through the Log Cabin Center for the Arts, and |
| 13 | | critical social services such as recovery programs, support |
| 14 | | groups, and pastoral care; and |
| 15 | | WHEREAS, David Sanders has recently announced his |
| 16 | | retirement, marking the close of an extraordinary chapter of |
| 17 | | hands-on leadership and lifelong service; and |
| 18 | | WHEREAS, David Sanders has touched countless lives through |
| 19 | | his humility, leadership, and unwavering commitment to helping |
| 20 | | others, and his influence has extended far beyond the borders |
| 21 | | of Palos Park to leave a lasting impact throughout the |
| 22 | | Chicagoland region; therefore, be it |

| 1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL |
| 2 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF |
| 3 | | REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the |
| 4 | | portion of Southwest Highway between 12600 and 13100 in Palos |
| 5 | | Park as "Dave Sanders Way"; and be it further |
| 6 | | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation |
| 7 | | is requested to erect and maintain appropriate signs |
| 8 | | displaying the name "Dave Sanders Way" along this designated |
| 9 | | portion of Southwest Highway; and be it further |
| 10 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be |
| 11 | | presented to David Sanders and his family, the Mayor of the |
| 12 | | Village of Palos Park, and the Secretary of the Illinois |
| 13 | | Department of Transportation. |
