SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly are
3pleased to honor individuals whose dedicated service has
4enriched the lives of residents throughout the State of
5Illinois; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Village of Palos Park has requested that a
7portion of Southwest Highway, generally located between 12600
8and 13100, be designated as "Dave Sanders Way" in recognition
9of David Sanders and his family's extraordinary and
10longstanding contributions to the community and the greater
11Chicagoland region; and
 
12    WHEREAS, For more than 90 years, the Sanders family has
13served as steward of The Center in Palos Park, a unique and
14cherished institution founded in 1932 by Reverend Paul T.
15Sanders and his wife, Elizabeth Sanders, with the vision of
16creating a place of peace, service, and spiritual connection
17for all; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Over the decades, The Center has grown into a
19vital regional resource encompassing approximately 65 acres on
20both the east and west sides of Southwest Highway, continuing
21to enrich the lives of individuals and families across
22generations; and

1    WHEREAS, The Center's mission is to provide people of all
2faiths, backgrounds, and ages with the space to dream, grow,
3and become fully alive physically, mentally, emotionally, and
4spiritually; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Under the quiet and dedicated leadership of David
6Sanders, The Center has remained a place of inclusion, growth,
7and service, offering a wide range of programs and resources,
8including a sanctuary for worship, counseling, and reflection
9through the Wayside Chapel, agricultural education through the
10Children's Farm, youth camp programs, early childhood
11education through the Farm and Nature Discovery School, arts
12programming through the Log Cabin Center for the Arts, and
13critical social services such as recovery programs, support
14groups, and pastoral care; and
 
15    WHEREAS, David Sanders has recently announced his
16retirement, marking the close of an extraordinary chapter of
17hands-on leadership and lifelong service; and
 
18    WHEREAS, David Sanders has touched countless lives through
19his humility, leadership, and unwavering commitment to helping
20others, and his influence has extended far beyond the borders
21of Palos Park to leave a lasting impact throughout the
22Chicagoland region; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF
3REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the
4portion of Southwest Highway between 12600 and 13100 in Palos
5Park as "Dave Sanders Way"; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
7is requested to erect and maintain appropriate signs
8displaying the name "Dave Sanders Way" along this designated
9portion of Southwest Highway; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
11presented to David Sanders and his family, the Mayor of the
12Village of Palos Park, and the Secretary of the Illinois
13Department of Transportation.
