HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Union Pacific Railroad's
4Chicago Service Unit on winning the 2025 Safety Bell Award;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Union Pacific Railroad, founded by an act of
7Congress and signed into law by President Abraham Lincoln as
8part of the nation's first transcontinental railroad in 1862,
9has continuously operated for more than 160 years with a focus
10on safety, service, and operational excellence; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The Safety Bell Award is Union Pacific Railroad's
12highest safety honor and is presented annually to the service
13unit achieving the best overall safety record; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Under the leadership of General Manager Cerwin
15Fleming, the Chicago Service Unit delivered a record-setting
16safety performance with more than 365 consecutive injury-free
17days and the lowest derailment rate of the company's 13
18service units during calendar year 2025; and
 
19    WHEREAS, The Chicago Service Unit includes nearly 1,300
20total track miles, four intermodal facilities, and five
21freight terminals and operates within one of the nation's

1busiest and most complex rail environments, supporting the
2safe and efficient movement of goods essential to the
3economies of the State of Illinois and the United States; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The performance of front-line craft
5professionals, managers, and leaders in the Chicago Service
6Unit reflects a shared commitment to safety and to ensuring
7that employees return home safely at the end of each day;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
10HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11we congratulate Union Pacific Railroad's Chicago Service Unit,
12General Manager Cerwin Fleming, and all team members on
13earning the 2025 Safety Bell Award; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
15presented to General Manager Cerwin Fleming and
16representatives of Union Pacific Railroad's Chicago Service
17Unit as an expression of our esteem and respect.
