HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Elizabeth "Betsy"
4Shapiro, D.D.S., J.D. on the recent conclusion of her service
5as the interim executive director of the American Dental
6Association (ADA) and her continued, distinguished service to
7organized dentistry; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Dr. Shapiro has dedicated her professional life
9to advancing oral health, serving her patients with skill and
10compassion, and strengthening the dental profession through
11leadership, advocacy, and public service; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Dr. Shapiro is a graduate of the University of
13Illinois Chicago College of Dentistry and earned her Juris
14Doctor from Northern Illinois University College of Law,
15combining her dental background with legal training and
16executive leadership in service to organized dentistry; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Dr. Shapiro has served the ADA in numerous
18important roles, including as the 2011-2012 Hillenbrand
19Fellow, senior director of the Center for Dental Practice
20Policy, and interim executive director, and she now returns to
21her role as the chief of governance and strategy management;
22and

1    WHEREAS, In these roles, Dr. Shapiro has helped to guide
2the work of the ADA, support the profession of dentistry, and
3advance policy, governance, and strategic leadership on behalf
4of dentists and patients across the nation; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Shapiro follows in a proud family tradition
6of service as the daughter of Dr. David Shapiro, who was
7himself a dentist, a former member of the Illinois House of
8Representatives, and later a member and minority leader in the
9Illinois Senate; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Inspired by her father's legacy of professional
11and public service, Dr. Shapiro has brought great credit to
12the State of Illinois through her own exceptional
13contributions to dentistry and organized dentistry at both the
14State and national levels; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
16HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we congratulate Elizabeth "Betsy" Shapiro, D.D.S., J.D. on her
18outstanding career in dentistry, commend her many
19contributions to the American Dental Association, the Illinois
20State Dental Society, and the profession at large, and wish
21her continued success in her service to organized dentistry;
22and be it further
