HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Adam and Eve Day is an observance dedicated to
3recognizing the shared origin of humanity and promoting
4harmony among all people regardless of background, belief, or
5heritage; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The concept of Adam and Eve Day has historical
7references dating back to the 1800s and was revived by Khawaja
8Shamsuddin Azeemi (Sufi Saint of the 21st Century) in 2003,
9establishing its celebration annually on the second Sunday in
10August; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The observance was introduced to Illinois by the
12Illinois Interfaith Organization in 2022 and was officially
13recognized through a proclamation passed by the Park District
14of Hanover Park, reflecting community support for its message
15of unity and diversity; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Illinois Interfaith Organization Chairman Nauman
17Khan Azeemi has diligently promoted and educated communities
18about the significance of Adam and Eve Day, including outreach
19and participation at the Parliament of the World's Religions
20conference in Chicago in 2023 and its inaugural Parade of
21Faiths, and continues to advance its message through
22interfaith initiatives; and

1    WHEREAS, Illinois is a state enriched by cultural,
2religious, and ethnic diversity and respect, inclusion, and
3cooperation among all its citizens; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
5HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6we declare August 9, 2026 as Adam and Eve Day in the State of
7Illinois; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That we encourage all residents to observe this
9day with programs, events, and reflections that promote unity,
10compassion, and understanding across all communities; and be
11it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13delivered to the Illinois Interfaith Organization as a symbol
14of our respect and esteem.
