| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to join Albanian-Americans across the |
| 4 | | State of Illinois in recognizing and honoring February 17, |
| 5 | | 2008 as the date on which the Republic of Kosova declared its |
| 6 | | independence; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, On that historic day, with an unyielding |
| 8 | | commitment to the principles of freedom, sovereignty, and |
| 9 | | self-determination, the Republic of Kosova formally proclaimed |
| 10 | | its independence in Prishtina, marking a transformative moment |
| 11 | | in its history and establishing itself as a free and sovereign |
| 12 | | nation; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, As the youngest country in Europe, the Republic |
| 14 | | of Kosova has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to |
| 15 | | democratic governance, the protection of human rights, and the |
| 16 | | rule of law;; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, The enduring relationship between the United |
| 18 | | States and the Republic of Kosova is grounded in shared values |
| 19 | | of freedom and democracy, with the United States having played |
| 20 | | a pivotal role in supporting Kosova's path toward peace, |
| 21 | | freedom, and independence; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, The Albanian-American community in Illinois has |
| 2 | | made lasting contributions to the cultural, economic, and |
| 3 | | civic life of the State, enriching its communities while |
| 4 | | preserving and sharing a proud cultural heritage; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, In 2026, the people of Kosova are commemorating |
| 6 | | the 18th anniversary of their independence, honoring the |
| 7 | | resilience, sacrifices, and aspirations that have shaped their |
| 8 | | nation; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, It is important to recognize the growing |
| 10 | | partnerships and people-to-people ties between the United |
| 11 | | States and the Republic of Kosova as well as the important role |
| 12 | | of the Kosovar and Albanian diaspora in fostering mutual |
| 13 | | understanding and cooperation; therefore, be it
|
| 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 15 | | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 16 | | we recognize and honor February 17, 2026 as the 18th |
| 17 | | anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Kosova; and |
| 18 | | be it further
|
| 19 | | RESOLVED, That we extend our best wishes to the people of |
| 20 | | the Republic of Kosova and express our appreciation to the |
| 21 | | Albanian-American community for its contributions to the |
| 22 | | strength, diversity, and prosperity of the State of Illinois. |
