HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Ethan Cepuran on his
4remarkable performance at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic
5Winter Games in Italy; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Ethan Cepuran, a native of Glen Ellyn, began his
7journey at the age of two with the Glen Ellyn Speedskating
8Club, inspired by his older brother, Eric, a junior national
9champion; he is a proud product of Glen Ellyn schools, having
10attended Ben Franklin Middle School, Hadley Junior High
11School, and Glenbard West High School; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Ethan Cepuran qualified for his first Olympic
13team at the age of 21 by winning the 5,000m at the U.S. Olympic
14Team Trials, a historic moment made even more special as his
15brother, Gordon, announced the race; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Ethan Cepuran is now a two-time Olympic medalist,
17having earned a bronze medal in the Team Pursuit at the Beijing
182022 Games and most recently a silver medal in the Team Pursuit
19at the Milano Cortina 2026 Games; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Ethan Cepuran, beyond his Olympic success, is a
21world champion, having secured gold in the Team Pursuit at the

12025 World Speedskating Championships; he was a vital part of
2the team that revolutionized the technique for the event, a
3style now emulated globally, and helped set the current world
4record in Salt Lake City; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ethan Cepuran's dominance in the sport is further
6evidenced by five consecutive World Cup Season Championships
7in the Team Pursuit and multiple U.S. Senior and Junior
8National Championships in distance events; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Ethan Cepuran, despite his international travel
10and grueling training schedule, remains a devoted fan of the
11Chicago Cubs and Chicago Blackhawks and finds balance through
12his love of fishing and golfing; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Ethan Cepuran has solidified his legacy as one of
14the premier long-distance speedskaters in the world;
15therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
17HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
18we congratulate Ethan Cepuran on his remarkable performance at
19the 2026 Olympic Winter Games and his storied career in
20speedskating and commend him for his dedication, his
21sportsmanship, and the pride he has brought to the Village of
22Glen Ellyn and the State of Illinois; and be it further
