| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Immanuel Lutheran Church | ||||||
| 4 | of Glenview on the 150th anniversary of its founding and the | ||||||
| 5 | 100th anniversary of its current sanctuary in 2026; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The history of Immanuel Lutheran Church began in | ||||||
| 7 | the mid-1870s when Lutheran families in the Glenview area | ||||||
| 8 | sought to establish a congregation faithful to the Lutheran | ||||||
| 9 | Confessions; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, In response to this need, the Reverend Adam | ||||||
| 11 | Detzer of Des Plaines began holding services, leading to the | ||||||
| 12 | formal organization of the congregation at the end of January | ||||||
| 13 | 1876; and | ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, After initially meeting in a schoolhouse on | ||||||
| 15 | Shermer Road, the congregation resolved to construct its own | ||||||
| 16 | house of worship, and on March 5, 1876, trustees were elected | ||||||
| 17 | and a contract was let for a church on a two-acre site on West | ||||||
| 18 | Lake Avenue (now Chestnut Avenue); and | ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Through the generous donation of labor and funds | ||||||
| 20 | totaling $1,530, the cornerstone of the first church was laid | ||||||
| 21 | on April 22, 1876, and the building was dedicated on June 25, | ||||||

| 1 | 1876; and | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, From its inception, the congregation demonstrated | ||||||
| 3 | a commitment to education and perpetual care by establishing a | ||||||
| 4 | school and a cemetery alongside the church; and | ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, As the congregation continued to flourish, a new | ||||||
| 6 | brick church was constructed on the north side of Chestnut | ||||||
| 7 | Avenue and dedicated on November 28, 1926, which has now | ||||||
| 8 | served as a spiritual home for the community for a century; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Today, the 150-year legacy of Immanuel Lutheran | ||||||
| 10 | Church continues through its vibrant ministry, its cemetery, | ||||||
| 11 | and its school, which now serves the community as a vital early | ||||||
| 12 | childhood center; therefore, be it | ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 14 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 15 | we congratulate Immanuel Lutheran Church of Glenview on the | ||||||
| 16 | 150th anniversary of its founding and the 100th anniversary of | ||||||
| 17 | its sanctuary, and we commend the congregation for its century | ||||||
| 18 | and a half of dedicated service to the residents of Glenview | ||||||
| 19 | and the surrounding area; and be it further | ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 21 | presented to the leadership of Immanuel Lutheran Church as a | ||||||
