SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Nelson A. "Pete" Wright III, M.D., who
4passed away on November 4, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Wright, the son of Dr. Nelson A. Wright Jr.
6and Melba Rose Wright, was born on March 16, 1931; he graduated
7from Pekin High School in 1949 and Kenyon College in Gambier,
8Ohio in 1953; he married Barbara Ann Johnson on July 9, 1955;
9he received his Doctor of Medicine from the Abraham Lincoln
10School of Medicine, now the University of Illinois Chicago, in
111957; he served in the U.S. Army, and he was discharged with
12the rank of captain; he completed his Internal Medicine
13Residency at Illinois Central Hospital in Chicago and later
14became certified in Family Medicine by the American Board of
15Medical Specialties; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Dr. Wright practiced medicine with his father in
17Pekin for 37 years, retiring in 1997; he was an active
18attending staff member at Pekin Memorial Hospital, now Carle
19Health Pekin Hospital, where he was twice elected to serve as
20president of the staff; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Dr. Wright was a member of Grace United Methodist
22Church of Pekin, a lifelong member of the Pekin Country Club,

1and a dedicated Shriner whose good standing led to his
2invitation to join the Royal Order of Jesters; he regularly
3donated to his church, the Salvation Army, Pekin Memorial
4Hospital, the Tazewell Animal Protective Society (TAPS), and
5Kenyon College; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dr. Wright and his wife supported the Center for
7Prevention of Abuse (CFPA) by donating money and their medical
8practice building to serve as the organization's second
9domestic violence emergency shelter in Pekin, which was named
10the Carol House of Hope in memory of their late daughter,
11Carol; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Dr. Wright loved golfing and playing tennis with
13his friends; he also enjoyed traveling and drinking wine; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Dr. Wright was preceded in death by his parents;
15his brother, Dr. Robert M. "Buck" Wright; and his daughter,
16Carol M. Wright; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Dr. Wright is survived by his wife; his son, Dr.
18David N. (Kay) Wright; two grandsons; and one
19great-granddaughter; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

1Nelson A. "Pete" Wright III, M.D. and extend our sincere
2condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
3him; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Dr. Wright as an expression of our
6deepest sympathy.
