SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Thomas J. "Tom" Roger, who passed away
4on October 1, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Tom Roger was born to Edward and Mary (Boehle)
6Roger in Peoria on February 17, 1942; he attended Mid County
7Schools, graduating in 1960; he served in the U.S. Army from
81964 to 1966, during which he was stationed in Vietnam from
91965 to 1966; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Tom Roger worked for the Marshall County Highway
11Department for 42 years, retiring in 2004; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Tom Roger was a founding member of the
13Chillicothe Recreational Area, and he was also a member of the
14Peoria Barbershop Society Chorus; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Tom Roger helped start the Lacon Merchants
16fast-pitch softball team in the 1970s, leading the team
17through many names, including the Lacon Merchants, Blarney
18Castle, and the Lacon Bombers, before finally merging with Two
19Brothers Tap; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Tom Roger enjoyed snowmobiling, and he was a fan

1of the Green Bay Packers and the University of Illinois; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Tom Roger was preceded in death by his parents;
3and
 
4    WHEREAS, Tom Roger is survived by his siblings, Anne (Bob
5Haas) Roger, Charlie (Lori) Roger, John Roger, and Bill Roger;
6his niece, Katherine (Scott Schwartz) Roger; and his nephew,
7Jonathan Roger; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Thomas J. "Tom" Roger and extend our sincere condolences to
11his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Tom Roger as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
