SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Michael Thomas "Mike" Sierra of
4Peoria, who passed away on November 9, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mike Sierra was born in East Moline to Julien
6Terronez Sierra and Kathleen (Reyes) Sierra on August 7, 1948;
7he graduated from the Spalding Institute in Peoria in 1966 and
8received his Bachelor of Arts from Sangamon State University
9(University of Illinois Springfield); and
 
10    WHEREAS, Mike Sierra was the stage manager for the Peoria
11Symphony Orchestra for three seasons and served as staff
12assistant to U.S. Senator Adlai Stevenson III in his
13Springfield office; he retired from the State of Illinois
14Guardianship and Advocacy Commission after 23 years, rising to
15the position of regional administration manager for the Peoria
16area; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Mike Sierra loved and valued friends and family
18above all; he enjoyed playing tennis, softball, baseball, and
19swimming; he attended various concerts and theater
20performances throughout Peoria; he was a Civil War buff and
21visited numerous battlefields throughout the country; a
22lifelong learner, he attended numerous Osher Lifelong Learning

1Institutes classes at Bradley University; he was a fan of the
2Chicago White Sox throughout his entire life; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Mike Sierra was preceded in death by his parents
4and his brother, Joseph; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mike Sierra is survived by his daughter, Melissa
6Sierra (Dan Johnston); his sisters, Marty (Ed) Sierra Perry,
7Stephanie (Tom) Sierra Theado, Mary Sierra, Rebecca Sierra,
8and Lisa (Rick) Campbell; his brothers, Jerome (Linda) Sierra,
9Timothy (Rita) Sierra, and Julien Sierra; and many nieces and
10nephews; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Michael Thomas "Mike" Sierra and extend our sincere
14condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
15him; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Mike Sierra as an expression of our
18deepest sympathy.
