SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Charles "Tom" Marx of Quincy, who
4passed away on November 10, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Tom Marx was born in Hannibal, Missouri to Edward
6and Margaret Barnes Marx on June 9, 1950; he graduated from
7Hull High School and attended Gem City Business College; he
8married Kathie Myers in Quincy on August 2, 1980; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Tom Marx began selling fireworks with his dad
10when he was in 5th grade at a stand in Oakwood, Missouri, and
11following his passion, he turned the small fireworks stand
12into the country's largest fireworks superstore located in
13Hannibal; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Tom Marx was an astute businessman and developer
15and considered all of his employees to be part of his family;
16he brought Staples to Quincy, beginning the Marx Commercial
17Development, and revitalized the Steamboat Bend Shopping
18Center in Hannibal; he loved to beautify and make properties
19thrive; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Tom Marx was a drummer and loved rock and roll
21music; Journey was one of his favorite bands; he took great joy

1in taking his family and friends to concerts to experience and
2enjoy live music together; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Tom Marx was devoted to his family; he had many
4close friends and business friends; he was kind, caring, and
5quietly generous; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Tom Marx was preceded in death by his parents;
7his son, Joshua "Josh" Marx; and his father-in-law and
8mother-in-law, Jim and Dorothy Myers; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Tom Marx is survived by his wife, Kathie; his
10brother, Mike Marx; his sister-in-law, Karrie (Craig) Smith;
11his nephews, Tory and Tyler (Devon) Kaufmann; his great-nieces
12and great-nephews, Peyton, August, Vada, and Fia Kaufmann; and
13many friends; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Charles "Tom" Marx and extend our sincere condolences to his
17family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Tom Marx as an expression of our
21deepest sympathy.
