SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Lori J. Wilcox-Knight; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Lori Wilcox-Knight, born in 1976, received a
5Bachelor of Arts from Western Illinois University, an
6ABA-Approved, Post-Bachelor Paralegal Certificate from
7Roosevelt University Chicago, and a Master of Education from
8American Intercontinental University, and she was pursuing a
9Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Liberty
10University; she was a Certified, Registered, and Master
11Municipal Clerk; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Lori Wilcox-Knight was a combat war veteran; she
13joined the U.S. Army in 1993 at the age of 17, and her tenure
14included being stationed in Germany, Japan, Korea, and Austria
15and participating in Operation Joint Guard in Bosnia from 1997
16to 1998; during her time in the military, she served as an
17administrative specialist, a postal operations sergeant, and a
18reserve hospital unit administrator until 2005; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Lori Wilcox-Knight made history when she was
20first elected City Clerk of the City of Chicago Heights in
212011, and she completed and retired from her third term in May
222023; she won a historic election as committeeman of Bloom

1Township Democrats in March 2018, becoming the second woman
2and youngest person to hold that position; she was the former
3co-chair of the Cook County Democratic Party's Outreach
4Committee; she also served as a member of Governor JB Pritzker
5and Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton's 2018 Veterans Transition
6Team, and she later served as a member of Secretary of State
7Alex Giannoulias' 2023 Library Transition Team; during her
8tenure in public life, she was known for supporting, engaging,
9educating, and empowering women candidates, helping over 10
10women become judges and many others to join, to gain, and to
11grow in the political arena; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Lori Wilcox-Knight worked as a business
13development and executive leadership coach from November 2022
14to November 2023, incorporating reading, writing, and
15volunteering to help senior level executives and healthcare
16professionals transition into entrepreneurship; she aspired to
17become a children's mental health counselor; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Lori Wilcox-Knight had been a member of Rotary
19International since 2011, where she held the positions of
20assistant governor, for which she was named Assistant Governor
21of the Year, president of the Chicago Heights-Park Forest
22Rotary Club, and international convention chairperson for
23Rotary District 6450's visit to Korea; she also hosted three
24Friendship Exchange delegations from Nigeria in 2017, 2022,

1and 2023, and she hosted a Friendship Delegation for a
2Vanderbilt University Fellow from Thailand; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Lori Wilcox-Knight volunteered at her youngest
4son's junior high school, Cornerstone Christian School,
5providing mentoring, capacity building, and a food pantry and
6serving as a volunteer resource officer; she also volunteered
7at a local nursing home, providing spiritual care, and she was
8an active minister in the church; she sat on the boards of
9multiple non-profits; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Lori Wilcox-Knight was the recipient of numerous
11accolades, including receiving the Illinois Women in
12Leadership Public Fellowship in 2015 and being selected by the
13Chicago Defender as one of the 50 Women of Excellence in 2016;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, Lori Wilcox-Knight was a mother, daughter,
16sister, and friend who was passionate about supporting
17initiatives involving veterans, women in business, cancer
18survivors, and small private schools; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Lori Wilcox-Knight is survived by her children,
20Taylor, Frankie, and Lorenz; therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
2Lori J. Wilcox-Knight and extend our sincere condolences to
3her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
4further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of Lori Wilcox-Knight as an expression
7of our deepest sympathy.
