SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3congratulate the Augustana Symphonic Band on its 150th
4anniversary; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Augustana College was founded as an institution
6of higher learning in Chicago in 1860; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The Augustana Symphonic Band was organized as the
8Augustana Silver Cornet Band in Paxton in 1874, where it held
9its first concert; the following year, the band performed in
10celebration of the college's relocation to Rock Island, and it
11has been involved in every major Augustana College event
12since; and
 
13    WHEREAS, The Augustana Symphonic Band answered the call to
14service in World War I, enlisting and serving honorably as the
156th Illinois Regimental Band; and
 
16    WHEREAS, The Augustana Symphonic Band has admirably
17represented the State of Illinois through performance tours
18across the nation and around the world; and
 
19    WHEREAS, The Augustana Symphonic Band, under the direction
20of Dr. James M. Lambrecht since 1988, is one of the oldest,

1most storied, and most respected collegiate wind ensembles in
2the nation, in addition to being the oldest musical
3organization currently active in the Quad Cities; therefore,
4be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the
7Augustana Symphonic Band on its 150th anniversary and
8recognize its director, Dr. James M. Lambrecht, and the band's
9members, alumni, and former directors; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That we extend our gratitude to the Augustana
11Symphonic Band for its historic and valuable contributions to
12the artistic culture and musical reputation of our great
13State; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to Augustana College as a symbol of our respect and
16esteem.
