2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Mary Irene Bowman, who passed away on |
4 | | June 23, 2024 at the age of 99; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, Mary Bowman was born to Bernard and Irene Kiley |
6 | | in Chicago on November 6, 1924; and |
7 | | WHEREAS, Mary Bowman was a lifelong supporter of Trinity |
8 | | High School, as she and her six daughters were all graduates; |
9 | | and |
10 | | WHEREAS, Mary Bowman graduated from Rosary College, now |
11 | | Dominican University, and she received her master's degree in |
12 | | social work from Loyola University; and |
13 | | WHEREAS, Mary Bowman met her husband of 48 years, Paul |
14 | | Clarke Bowman Jr., while studying at Loyola University; they |
15 | | were married on October 8, 1949; and |
16 | | WHEREAS, Mary Bowman was a dedicated advocate for the |
17 | | Haymarket House in Chicago, founded by a dear friend of hers |
18 | | from Loyola, Monseigneur Ignatius McDermott; and |
19 | | WHEREAS, Mary Bowman and her husband volunteered at the |

1 | | Apostolate for the Handicapped for many years; she also |
2 | | contributed to countless other charitable works; and |
3 | | WHEREAS, Mary Bowman was passionate about her faith; she |
4 | | exhibited a compassionate attitude towards everyone and had a |
5 | | great sense of humor; and |
6 | | WHEREAS, Mary Bowman was preceded in death by her husband; |
7 | | her parents; her brothers, Bernard and William; her |
8 | | son-in-law, Bernard; and her daughter-in-law, Shelly; and |
9 | | WHEREAS, Mary Bowman is survived by her children, Mary Kay |
10 | | (James) Mullen, Nancy (the late Bernard) Babel, Patricia |
11 | | (James) Ruth, Susan (Phillip) Mullane, Ellen (Lawrence) |
12 | | Calkins, Paul (the late Shelly) Bowman, Jerome (Mary) Bowman, |
13 | | and Elizabeth (Curtis) Kracht; 21 grandchildren; 25 |
14 | | great-grandchildren; her brother-in-law, Jim; her |
15 | | sister-in-law, Winnie Bowman; and many nieces and nephews; |
16 | | therefore, be it |
17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL |
18 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
19 | | Mary Irene Bowman and extend our sincere condolences to her |
20 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it |
