1 | SENATE RESOLUTION | ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Charles K. "Keith" Sheckler of Morton, | ||||||
4 | who passed away on October 4, 2024; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Keith Sheckler was born to Charles and Muriel | ||||||
6 | (Teach) Sheckler in Ellisville on July 31, 1930; he graduated | ||||||
7 | from Ellisville High School, Western Illinois University, and | ||||||
8 | the University of Illinois; he married Lela A. (Fidler) | ||||||
9 | McCloskey on November 20, 1959; and | ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Keith Sheckler enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard, | ||||||
11 | graduating from Officer's Training and spending most of his | ||||||
12 | active duty on the U.S.S. Cutter Bib along the coast of Korea; | ||||||
13 | he transitioned from active duty to the U.S. Coast Guard | ||||||
14 | Reserve before retiring as a lieutenant commander after over | ||||||
15 | 20 years of service; and | ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Keith Sheckler worked as a farm manager at Norris | ||||||
17 | Farms until he was transferred to the company's home office in | ||||||
18 | Ocala, Florida in 1972; he then moved to Marion, Illinois, | ||||||
19 | where he worked in mine land reclamation for the federal | ||||||
20 | government; he then worked as a farm manager in the Farm | ||||||
21 | Management Department of First National Bank in Springfield; | ||||||
22 | along with several other farm managers and their secretary, he |

1 | purchased the Farm Management Department from the bank and | ||||||
2 | created Agri-Vest Farm Management Services, from which he | ||||||
3 | retired at the age of 83; and | ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Keith Sheckler attended Hope Presbyterian Church | ||||||
5 | in Springfield, where he enjoyed attending the men's weekly | ||||||
6 | Bible study group; and | ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Keith Sheckler enjoyed traveling with his special | ||||||
8 | friend, Linda Dodd, and spending time with his family; and | ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Keith Sheckler was preceded in death by his wife; | ||||||
10 | his parents; and his brothers, Howard Sheckler and Donald | ||||||
11 | Sheckler; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Keith Sheckler is survived by his children, Mike | ||||||
13 | (Liz) McCloskey and Diana (Ron) Jansen; three grandchildren; | ||||||
14 | five great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; his | ||||||
15 | sister, Deloris Postin; two nephews; and two nieces; | ||||||
16 | therefore, be it | ||||||
17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
19 | Charles K. "Keith" Sheckler and extend our sincere condolences | ||||||
20 | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | ||||||
21 | it further |
