2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of former Assistant U.S. Attorney and |
4 | | Illinois Attorney General Tyrone C. Fahner of Northfield, |
5 | | formerly of Evanston, who passed away on September 16, 2024; |
6 | | and |
7 | | WHEREAS, Tyrone Fahner, the son of Warren and Alma Fahner, |
8 | | was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 18, 1942; he |
9 | | received a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan, |
10 | | a law degree from Wayne State University Law School, and a |
11 | | master's degree in criminal justice from the Northwestern |
12 | | University School of Law in 1971, where he also received a |
13 | | distinguished Ford Foundation Fellowship; and |
14 | | WHEREAS, Tyrone Fahner became an assistant federal |
15 | | prosecutor in the early 1970s, where he headed the official |
16 | | corruption section; he led the 200-member task force that |
17 | | investigated the 1982 deaths of seven Chicago-area residents |
18 | | from ingesting Tylenol cold capsules tainted with cyanide; he |
19 | | had a long and successful career in private practice at the |
20 | | prestigious Chicago law firm Mayer Brown LLP, serving on the |
21 | | management committee from 1985 to 2007, as co-chair from 1998 |
22 | | to 2001, and as chairman from 2001 to 2007; and |

1 | | WHEREAS, Tyrone Fahner was a dedicated and passionate |
2 | | public servant; he served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for |
3 | | the Northern District of Illinois, the Director of the |
4 | | Illinois Department of Law Enforcement, and Attorney General |
5 | | of the State of Illinois from 1980 to 1983; he also chaired the |
6 | | finance committee of the Illinois Republican party and served |
7 | | as president of the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of |
8 | | Chicago from 2010 to 2017; and |
9 | | WHEREAS, Tyrone Fahner was active outside of politics, |
10 | | serving in a variety of roles dedicated to causes important to |
11 | | him; he served as chairman of the Board of Trustees for the |
12 | | John G. Shedd Aquarium, director at the Ann & Robert H. Lurie |
13 | | Children's Hospital of Chicago, and a member of the Corporate |
14 | | Advisory Committee for the University of Michigan; he served |
15 | | as an appointee of President George W. Bush on the Commission |
16 | | for the Preservation of America's Heritage Abroad from 2007 to |
17 | | 2023 and as an appointee of President Ronald Reagan to the |
18 | | Board of Foreign Scholarships from 1988 to 1991; and |
19 | | WHEREAS, Tyrone Fahner enjoyed cars, dogs, fishing, and |
20 | | anything to do with the University of Michigan; and |
21 | | WHEREAS, Tyrone Fahner loved his country, helping others, |
22 | | connecting people for the collective good, and spending time |
23 | | with his family, especially his wife; he was a respected |

1 | | leader who served as a mentor to many and held a deep |
2 | | commitment to service; and |
3 | | WHEREAS, Tyrone Fahner was preceded in death by his |
4 | | parents; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, Tyrone Fahner was the husband of Anne Marie |
6 | | Fahner for 58 years; the father of Margaret (Andrew Bielecki) |
7 | | Fahner, Daniel Fahner, and Molly (Benn Calhoun) Fahner; the |
8 | | grandfather of eight grandchildren; the brother of Warren (the |
9 | | late Elizabeth "Betty") Fahner and Allan (Kathy) Fahner; the |
10 | | uncle of eight nieces and nephews; and the brother-in-law of |
11 | | Suzanne (George} Beauchamp; therefore, be it |
12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL |
13 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
14 | | former Assistant U.S. Attorney and Illinois Attorney General |
15 | | Tyrone Fahner and extend our sincere condolences to his |
16 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
17 | | further |
18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
19 | | presented to the family of Tyrone Fahner as an expression of |
20 | | our deepest sympathy. |
