2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of David Wesley "Dave" Combs of | ||||||
4 | Taylorville, who passed away on August 18, 2024; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Dave Combs, the son of Shaw and Olive (Welker) | ||||||
6 | Combs, was born in Hillsboro on April 1, 1937; he was raised on | ||||||
7 | the family farm in Coffeen; he graduated from Hillsboro High | ||||||
8 | School and the Graduate School of Banking in Madison, | ||||||
9 | Wisconsin; he served as a private specialist 4 in the U.S. Army | ||||||
10 | from 1956 to 1959, including more than two years in Korea; he | ||||||
11 | married Sally Thomas Williams in Hillsboro on April 20, 1962; | ||||||
12 | and | ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Dave Combs began his career as a bank teller, | ||||||
14 | working his way up to the positions of president and CEO at the | ||||||
15 | First National Bank in Taylorville, serving as president for | ||||||
16 | 25 years and retiring after 54 years of service; and | ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Dave Combs served as director on the boards of | ||||||
18 | First Bancorp and West Main Reality Group for 43 years; he was | ||||||
19 | a founding member of the former Independent Community Banks in | ||||||
20 | Illinois, now the Community Bankers Association of Illinois, | ||||||
21 | serving as president from 1983 to 1984; he was also a member of | ||||||
22 | several other banking association boards; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Dave Combs was a lifetime member of the VFW, | ||||||
2 | where he served in many roles, including calling the commands | ||||||
3 | for the honor guard for 40 years; he was also a member of the | ||||||
4 | Taylorville First United Methodist Church, Sons of Confederate | ||||||
5 | Veterans, and the American Quarter Horse Association; and | ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Dave Combs loved watching Westerns, listening to | ||||||
7 | country music, and riding through farmlands; he enjoyed | ||||||
8 | traveling with his wife to conventions throughout the U.S., | ||||||
9 | especially in the Southwest; he was the proud owner of many | ||||||
10 | horses throughout the years, including his most recent horse, | ||||||
11 | Ranger; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Dave Combs was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
13 | his wife; and his siblings, Loren Combs, Jack Combs, and Nora | ||||||
14 | Kumple; and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Dave Combs is survived by his children, Kelley | ||||||
16 | (John) Williams Davidson, Shawne Combs Woodard, and Shad | ||||||
17 | (Patti Quinn) Combs; three grandchildren; two | ||||||
18 | great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins; | ||||||
19 | therefore, be it | ||||||
20 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
21 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
