SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Richard E. "Dick" Poynter of
4Springfield, who passed away on August 15, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dick Poynter was born in Springfield to Richard
6H. Poynter and Ann (German) Whalen on October 28, 1949; he
7graduated from Athens High School in 1967 and the University
8of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign in 1972, where he earned his
9bachelor's degree in accounting; he married Sharon Suberkropp
10in Mendota on August 29, 1971; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Dick Poynter worked for Nudo Products, where he
12was the CFO, and also had a large private tax practice; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dick Poynter was a member of Laurel United
14Methodist Church and Friends of the Sangamon Valley, where he
15was the current president; he enjoyed camping with his
16grandchildren, mushroom hunting, pickleball, and basketball;
17he was a connoisseur of craft beer, enjoyed reading Abraham
18Lincoln history books, volunteered at the Abraham Lincoln
19Presidential Museum, and was an avid Illini fan; he was a
20vibrant, hard-working, altruistic, life of the party fellow
21and was known as "Cool Dude" by his grandchildren; and

1    WHEREAS, Dick Poynter was preceded in death by his parents
2and his nephew, Andy Suberkropp; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Dick Poynter is survived by his wife, Sharon
4Poynter; his daughters, Eve (Christopher) Barrs, Emily (Mike)
5Jenkins, and Jane (Jeremy) Zahora; his grandchildren, Robin
6and Teddy Barrs, Henry and William Jenkins, and Grace, Zoey,
7and Charlie Zahora; his brother-in-law, Keller (June)
8Suberkropp; his niece, Sandy; his nephews, Mike and Jeff; his
9great-nieces, Krissy and Pam; and his great-nephew, Ben;
10therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Richard E. "Dick" Poynter and extend our sincere condolences
14to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
15it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Dick Poynter as an expression of our
18deepest sympathy.
