2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Joseph Calvin "Joe" Goebert of |
4 | | Atkinson, who passed away on July 24, 2024; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, Joe Goebert, the son of Phil and Anna |
6 | | (VanDeRostyne) Goebert, was born in Atkinson on December 20, |
7 | | 1924; he attended St. Anthony Grade School, and he graduated |
8 | | from Atkinson High School in 1943; he served as a radioman and |
9 | | gunner in the U.S. Navy during World War II, flying in a |
10 | | Grumman Avenger aircraft from the U.S.S. Randolph on missions |
11 | | in the Pacific Theater; he married Mary Lou Hecks at St. |
12 | | Anthony's Church in Atkinson on April 7, 1956; and |
13 | | WHEREAS, Following his military service, Joe Goebert |
14 | | joined the U.S. Postal Service, working at the post offices in |
15 | | Atkinson and Rock Island; he was designated as postmaster of |
16 | | the Atkinson office in 1972, retiring in 1990; and |
17 | | WHEREAS, Joe Goebert was a member of St. Anthony Church, |
18 | | the Atkinson Kiwanis Club, the Atkinson American Legion, and |
19 | | the Henry County Forty and Eight; and |
20 | | WHEREAS, Joe Goebert was preceded in death by his parents; |
21 | | his siblings, Lester Goebert and Marge Buysse; and his half |
