2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Johnnie D. Short of Bartonville, who |
4 | | passed away on July 22, 2024; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, Johnnie Short was born to Eugene and Lois (Watts) |
6 | | Short in Marshall County, Kentucky on June 29, 1944; he served |
7 | | in the U.S. Navy from 1962 to 1966, where he was among the |
8 | | first crew aboard the U.S.S. Richard E. Byrd, DDG-23, and he |
9 | | was involved in the Cuban Missile Crisis and served on tours in |
10 | | the Mediterranean; and |
11 | | WHEREAS, Johnnie Short was a 56-year member of Iron |
12 | | Workers Local 112, where he served as the business |
13 | | manager/financial secretary-treasurer from 1987 to 2008; as |
14 | | part of this role, he was a member on the Iron Workers District |
15 | | Council of Chicago and Vicinity, the Iron Workers Tri-State |
16 | | Welfare Fund Board of Trustees, and the Iron Workers |
17 | | Mid-America Pension Plan Board of Trustees, and he represented |
18 | | Local 112 at international conventions; he was a fierce |
19 | | advocate for ironworkers, and he fought hard to uphold the |
20 | | wages and benefits for all members of Local 112; and |
21 | | WHEREAS, Johnnie Short enjoyed fishing, waterfowl hunting, |
22 | | horseback riding, and golfing, especially on the courses in |
