SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of John M. Burke of Des Plaines, who
4passed away on July 9, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Burke was born to Ignatius and Elizabeth
6Burke in New York City, New York on March 27, 1940; he was
7raised in Rye, New York, attending Archbishop Stepinac High
8School in White Plains and Iona College in New Rochelle, both
9in New York; he was a longtime resident of Des Plaines; and
 
10    WHEREAS, John Burke served as a special agent with Army
11Intelligence, U.S. Army, and he then pursued a career in the
12security and investigations industry; he served as chairman of
13the Chicago Chapter of the American Society for Industrial
14Security and was a member of the Special Agents Association;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, John Burke lived a life of service to his church
17and community; he attended St. Stephen Protomartyr Church,
18where he served as a member of the parish council, as chairman
19of the lectors, and as a representative to the Archdiocesan
20Pastoral Council; he served as president of the Des Plaines
21History Center, the Kiwanis Club of Des Plaines, and the Des
22Plaines Library Board; he was active with Crime Stoppers,

1PADS, and Meals on Wheels; he also served as a reading tutor
2and mentor at Forest Elementary School for six years; and
 
3    WHEREAS, John Burke deeply loved his family, and he
4actively supported his daughters, took every opportunity to be
5involved in his granddaughter's life, and enjoyed attending
6family reunions in the Catskills; he also loved studying
7geography, history, and archaeology, and he was skilled at
8playing Trivial Pursuit; and
 
9    WHEREAS, John Burke was preceded in death by his parents;
10his sister, Joan (John) Turner; and his niece, Shannon Turner;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, John Burke is survived by his wife of 55 years,
13Marie; his daughters, Katherine and Michelle; his
14granddaughter, Vivian; his siblings, Regina (John) Vassak and
15Kevin (Elise) Burke; his cousin, Vivian "Pat" Burke; five
16nephews; and dozens of cousins; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19John M. Burke and extend our sincere condolences to his
20family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
