1 | SENATE RESOLUTION | ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Robert E. "Bob" Chipman of | ||||||
4 | Jacksonville, who passed away on July 20, 2024; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Bob Chipman was born and raised in Jacksonville; | ||||||
6 | he graduated from Illinois College in 1974, and he was also a | ||||||
7 | graduate of the Realtors' Institute; and | ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Bob Chipman, a licensed real estate broker and a | ||||||
9 | state-certified appraiser, owned Chipman Realtors and | ||||||
10 | Appraisers; he formerly worked for the Farmers State Bank and | ||||||
11 | Trust Company; in his professional capacity, he was a past | ||||||
12 | president of the local Association of Realtors and served as | ||||||
13 | chairman of the local Multiple Listing Service for many years; | ||||||
14 | and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Bob Chipman was dedicated to his alma mater and | ||||||
16 | became known as "Mr. Illinois College"; he served on the | ||||||
17 | Illinois College Board of Trustees for 25 years, remaining as | ||||||
18 | a trustee emeritus after retiring, and as chairman of the | ||||||
19 | Capital Improvements Committee; he and his wife, Janet, were | ||||||
20 | actively involved in campus as alumni, attending concerts, | ||||||
21 | literary society events, and athletic and theater events; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Bob Chipman was involved in many local | ||||||
2 | organizations, including the Jacksonville Area Museum, the | ||||||
3 | Jacksonville Public Schools Foundation, and the Bob Freesen | ||||||
4 | YMCA; he served as president of the Prairieland United Way | ||||||
5 | Board and the Jacksonville Kiwanis Club and on the board of | ||||||
6 | what is known now as Jacksonville Memorial Hospital; he was | ||||||
7 | also active with the Jacksonville Area Chamber of Commerce, | ||||||
8 | serving on its board for three years, including as board | ||||||
9 | chairman in 2022; and | ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Bob Chipman was a man of faith and an active, | ||||||
11 | longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville, | ||||||
12 | serving as a church elder and on the board of trustees; he and | ||||||
13 | Janet also taught the adult Sunday school class together for | ||||||
14 | 30 years; and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Bob Chipman was recognized for his contributions | ||||||
16 | to Illinois College and his community, receiving an honorary | ||||||
17 | doctorate from the school and being inducted into the | ||||||
18 | Jacksonville Hall of Fame; and | ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Bob Chipman was known for his honesty, his | ||||||
20 | generosity, and his smile; he will be remembered for his love | ||||||
21 | of and dedication to his community, his alma mater, and his | ||||||
22 | church; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Bob Chipman was the husband of Janet and the | ||||||
2 | father of Timothy and Andrew; therefore, be it | ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
4 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
5 | Robert E. "Bob" Chipman and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
6 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
7 | further | ||||||
8 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
9 | presented to the family of Bob Chipman as an expression of our | ||||||
10 | deepest sympathy. |
