2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Dennis W. Gorman of Quincy, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on June 25, 2024; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Dennis Gorman, the son of Wayne and Norma (Laney) | ||||||
6 | Gorman, was born in St. Louis, Missouri on June 16, 1942; he | ||||||
7 | graduated from Quincy High School in 1960; he attended | ||||||
8 | Washington University in St. Louis and then graduated from the | ||||||
9 | University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1964, where he was | ||||||
10 | a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity; he married Barbara | ||||||
11 | "Barb" Keller at the Lutheran Church of St. John in Quincy on | ||||||
12 | June 27, 1964; he received his Juris Doctor from the | ||||||
13 | University of Illinois College of Law in 1967; he was admitted | ||||||
14 | to the Illinois Bar and then later to the Missouri Bar; and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Dennis Gorman began practicing law with Ira C. | ||||||
16 | Pierson in Quincy in 1967; he served as a city attorney and | ||||||
17 | then as an assistant state's attorney part-time while building | ||||||
18 | his private practice in banking, real estate, probate, and | ||||||
19 | small corporations; he then began a lengthy career as a school | ||||||
20 | lawyer, during which he served Quincy Public Schools District | ||||||
21 | #172, several other public school districts in west central | ||||||
22 | Illinois, Culver-Stockton College, and Quincy University; he | ||||||
23 | was also a lecturer in school law at Quincy University for |

1 | several years; after practicing law in various other | ||||||
2 | partnerships, he joined the law firm of Schmiedeskamp | ||||||
3 | Robertson Neu & Mitchell LLP in 1995, where he worked with his | ||||||
4 | son and law partner, Brett K. Gorman; he retired in 2017; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Dennis Gorman was passionate about his faith and | ||||||
6 | was a lifelong member of Faith Presbyterian Church, where he | ||||||
7 | served numerous terms as an elder and engaged on Presbyterian | ||||||
8 | church matters at the national level; he was a member and past | ||||||
9 | president of the Adams County Bar Association and the Quincy | ||||||
10 | Country Club; he also served as a member of the State Street | ||||||
11 | Bank Board of Directors for 49 years; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Dennis Gorman was a longtime advocate for the Boy | ||||||
13 | Scouts of America (BSA); he was an Eagle Scout and was selected | ||||||
14 | to represent Illinois for the Boy Scout Report to the Nation in | ||||||
15 | Washington D.C. in 1960; he served on the executive board of | ||||||
16 | the Mississippi Valley Council, BSA and championed the annual | ||||||
17 | fundraising campaign Friends of Scouting for many years; he | ||||||
18 | was featured for his service by Scouting Magazine in 1981, and | ||||||
19 | he received the Silver Beaver Award, the James West Fellowship | ||||||
20 | Award, and the Scout's Distinguished Citizen Award; and | ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Dennis Gorman enjoyed hiking, golfing, biking, | ||||||
22 | trout fishing, and traveling with his wife and family; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Dennis Gorman was preceded in death by his | ||||||
2 | parents; his in-laws, Bill Keller and Margaret Keller; and his | ||||||
3 | son; and | ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Dennis Gorman is survived by his wife; his | ||||||
5 | daughter, Wendy (Tim) Koontz; his daughter-in-law, Debbie | ||||||
6 | Gorman; his granddaughters, Megan (Jackson) O'Connor, Alice | ||||||
7 | Gorman, Madelyn (Matthew) Dean, Kate Gorman, and Anne Gorman; | ||||||
8 | his great-granddaughter, Charlotte O'Connor; his sister, Carol | ||||||
9 | (Gregory) Alster; his siblings-in-law, Bill Keller, Lynda | ||||||
10 | Keller, Dennis Cashman, and Marianne Cashman; and several | ||||||
11 | nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins; | ||||||
12 | therefore, be it | ||||||
13 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
14 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
15 | Dennis W. Gorman and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
16 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
17 | further | ||||||
18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
19 | presented to the family of Dennis Gorman as an expression of | ||||||
20 | our deepest sympathy. |
