2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Betty Ann Maguire of Virden, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on July 11, 2024; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Betty Maguire, the daughter of Harold and Mary | ||||||
6 | (Eater) Qualls, was born in Carlinville on October 14, 1940; | ||||||
7 | she graduated from Virden High School in 1958; she married | ||||||
8 | Richard "Dick" Maguire in Virden on September 27, 1959; and | ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Betty Maguire worked for Horace Mann and the | ||||||
10 | offices of the Macoupin County State's Attorney, the State's | ||||||
11 | Attorney Appellate Prosecutor, the Sangamon County State's | ||||||
12 | Attorney, and the Governor; and | ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Betty Maguire was dedicated to serving her | ||||||
14 | community, beginning when she joined the Virden School Board | ||||||
15 | in the late 1970s; she served as an alderperson for Ward 3 of | ||||||
16 | Virden for numerous years, and she often served as an election | ||||||
17 | judge at the polls; she also served on the Virden Park Board | ||||||
18 | and the Virden Queen Pageant and as a judge in cheerleading | ||||||
19 | competitions at Virden Middle School, now North Mac Middle | ||||||
20 | School; and | ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Betty Maguire further gave her time to her |

1 | community through decorating the local park for Christmas and | ||||||
2 | serving as a Christmas parade marshal; she also provided for | ||||||
3 | the installation of American flags on all the mailboxes in her | ||||||
4 | neighborhood every 4th of July; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Betty Maguire was honored for her community | ||||||
6 | service by being named the Virden Citizen of the Year in 2017; | ||||||
7 | and | ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Betty Maguire loved living in Virden and always | ||||||
9 | took great pride in giving back to her community; and | ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Betty Maguire was preceded in death by her | ||||||
11 | parents; her husband; her granddaughter, Brett Ann Maguire; | ||||||
12 | her brothers, Homer, Ronnie, Howard, Wayne, Loren, and Larry; | ||||||
13 | and her sisters, Ethel, Nettie, Henrietta, Maxine, and Ruth; | ||||||
14 | and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Betty Maguire is survived by her son, Rick (Jane) | ||||||
16 | Maguire; her daughters, Teri (Rick) Flowers and Andrea Murphy; | ||||||
17 | her grandchildren, Butch (Jaela) Flowers, Kassi (Jeremy) | ||||||
18 | White, Lexy (Sam) Ghrist, Devon (Taylor) Murphy, Kelsey | ||||||
19 | Murphy, Skyler (Alec) Quandt, and Luke Maguire; 10 | ||||||
20 | great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews; | ||||||
21 | therefore, be it |

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
2 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
3 | Betty Ann Maguire and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
4 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
5 | further | ||||||
6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
7 | presented to the family of Betty Maguire as an expression of | ||||||
8 | our deepest sympathy. |
