2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Paul Edward Murphy of Springfield, who |
4 | | passed away on June 8, 2024; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, Paul Murphy was born to Walter and Ruth Murphy on |
6 | | August 10, 1946; he graduated from Lanphier High School in |
7 | | 1964, where was a member of the state championship-winning |
8 | | basketball team; he married Susan Beekman; he was drafted into |
9 | | the U.S. Air Force, serving four years; he graduated from |
10 | | Sangamon State University; and |
11 | | WHEREAS, Paul Murphy worked as the computer room |
12 | | supervisor for the Illinois Department of Revenue for 40 |
13 | | years; and |
14 | | WHEREAS, Paul Murphy committed to his faith at a young |
15 | | age; he was baptized at First Baptist Church in Springfield, |
16 | | where he later served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher; he |
17 | | was a faithful member of Eastview Baptist Church in |
18 | | Springfield; and |
19 | | WHEREAS, Paul Murphy was an avid fan of the St. Louis |
20 | | Cardinals, the Fighting Illini, and the Green Bay Packers; he |
21 | | enjoyed golfing and watching his grandchildren compete in golf |

1 | | tournaments; he loved reading books, especially his Bible, and |
2 | | spending time with his family and the family dog, Buddy; he |
3 | | also enjoyed going with his family to Disney and the State |
4 | | Fair; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, Paul Murphy was a man of true character who never |
6 | | met a stranger; and |
7 | | WHEREAS, Paul Murphy was preceded in death by his parents; |
8 | | his brother, Harold Murphy; and his father-in-law, Darwin |
9 | | Beekman; and |
10 | | WHEREAS, Paul Murphy is survived by his wife and partner |
11 | | of 58 years, Susan; his daughters, Dawn (Gordon) Carvalho and |
12 | | Erin (Bennie) Fisher; his grandchildren, Nick Armstrong, |
13 | | Natalie Armstrong, Arielle Fisher, Max Fisher, and Tad Fisher; |
14 | | his mother-in-law, Thelma Beekman; his sister, RuthAnn (Bill) |
15 | | Midkiff; his siblings-in-law, Doris Murphy, Janice Swearingen, |
16 | | and Bob Swearingen; his nephews, Chris Murphy and Jeff |
17 | | Swearingen; and his nieces, Annie Midkiff, Lori Luongo, and |
18 | | Lauren Swearingen; therefore, be it |
19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL |
20 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
21 | | Paul Edward Murphy and extend our sincere condolences to his |
22 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
