SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Willie E. Johnson of Olympia Fields,
4who passed away on March 21, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Willie Johnson was born on December 10, 1939; he
6graduated from Pearl Senior High School in Nashville,
7Tennessee, where he lettered in football; he received a
8bachelor's degree from Fisk University in Nashville, where he
9continued to play football and was initiated into the Alpha
10Delta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. in 1962; he
11earned master's degrees from Northeastern Illinois University
12and Concordia University in Illinois; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Willie Johnson, while offered a professional
14contract with the Canadian Football League, instead pursued a
15career in education; he was a dedicated teacher for Chicago
16Public Schools for over 30 years, which included working at
17James R. Doolittle Elementary School; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Willie Johnson was a lifelong member of Kappa
19Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and he served as a graduate
20advisor to the Epsilon Omega Chapter at Northern Illinois
21University in DeKalb and as the 7th Polemarch of the Chicago
22Heights Alumni Chapter; and

1    WHEREAS, Willie Johnson was committed and dedicated to
2making an impact in his community; he will be remembered for
3leading with both his words and his actions; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Willie Johnson is survived by his wife, two
5children, his brother, two sisters, and a host of relatives;
6therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Willie E. Johnson and extend our sincere condolences to his
10family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Willie Johnson as an expression of
14our deepest sympathy.
