SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Richard M. "Bud" Caulkins of Colona,
4who passed away on May 11, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Richard Caulkins was born in Davenport, Iowa to
6Russell and Shirley (Strader) Caulkins on August 1, 1947; he
7served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War; he married
8Elizabeth Hemphill on June 24, 2017; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Richard Caulkins worked for the Rock Island
10Railroad as a journeyman and worked for John Deere Harvester
11as a machinist, retiring after 30 years; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Richard Caulkins was past commander for Colona
13American Legion Post 1233; he coached baseball for both the
14Colona Little League and for the national association that
15organizes teams and competitions for adults with visual
16impairments; he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching NASCAR;
17he was a fan of the Chicago Bears and St. Louis Cardinals; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Richard Caulkins was preceded in death by his
19parents and his brothers-in-law, Bob Powers and Wallace
20Snyder; and

1    WHEREAS, Richard Caulkins is survived by his wife,
2Elizabeth; his children, Kelly (Michael) Smith, Keith
3Caulkins, Danel (Julie) Caulkins, Patrick Caulkins, and Shawn
4(Samantha) Caulkins; his stepsons, Blake Hemphill, Brandon
5Clong, and Terry Gates Jr.; his grandchildren, Chris, Kristin,
6Kaitlyn, Bethany, Jordan, Dylan, Dakota, and Leland; 15
7great-grandchildren; his sisters, Judy Snyder, Nancy (Jerry)
8Rodgers, and Lana Powers; and his brothers, Don Caulkins,
9Tommie Caulkins, and Wayne (Jackie) Caulkins; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Richard M. "Bud" Caulkins and extend our sincere condolences
13to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
14it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Richard Caulkins as an expression
17of our deepest sympathy.
