2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of George White, who passed away on April |
4 | | 22, 2024; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, George White was born on November 9, 1954; and |
6 | | WHEREAS, George White was a longtime member of Service |
7 | | Employees International Union Healthcare Illinois, Indiana, |
8 | | Missouri, Kansas (SEIU HCIIMK); he first joined the union |
9 | | while working at a nursing home; more recently, he continued |
10 | | to serve the union as a home care worker with Addus Healthcare, |
11 | | where he played an important role in bargaining committees to |
12 | | negotiate contracts for home care workers; and |
13 | | WHEREAS, As a union leader for SEIU HCIIMK, George White |
14 | | was noted for his calm, levelheaded, and driven approach to |
15 | | bargaining, effectively winning historic raises and paid time |
16 | | off for thousands of home care workers across the State; he |
17 | | also served on the executive board, where he was instrumental |
18 | | in union-wide decisions that impacted approximately 90,000 |
19 | | health care and child care providers in Illinois, Indiana, |
20 | | Missouri, and Kansas; and |
21 | | WHEREAS, George White was a longtime advocate for working |

1 | | class people and assisted in a number of campaigns, including |
2 | | the Fight for $15 movement, the Bring Home Chicago coalition |
3 | | and referendum, the Purple Brigade, and Senator Lakesia |
4 | | Collins' first race for a seat on the Illinois House of |
5 | | Representatives in 2020, helping to elect the first SEIU |
6 | | health care worker to public office; he also lent his talents |
7 | | towards serving Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson; and |
8 | | WHEREAS, George White was a believer and a supporter of |
9 | | racial and economic justice for the working class, and his |
10 | | faith motivated him as a leader; as such, he was committed to |
11 | | doing the work necessary, not just talking about it; and |
12 | | WHEREAS, George White will be remembered as a frontline |
13 | | worker, leader, and mentor to all with whom he crossed paths |
14 | | and for his contributions to organized labor and toward |
15 | | building a better future for all; and |
16 | | WHEREAS, George White is survived by his wife of 35 years, |
17 | | Linda Griffin White; his children, George Griffin, Damon |
18 | | White, Tina Bryant, Kim Yarbrough, and Geneva White; his |
19 | | nieces and nephews, Sharlita White, James Smith, Richard |
20 | | Smith, and Lutricia Smith; and a host of grandchildren; |
