SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Deborah Bryant, who passed away on
4April 17, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Deborah Bryant was born to LaVonia (Mann) Hamlin
6and James Shaw in Brownsville, Tennessee; she attended
7Fernwood Elementary School, St. Helena Catholic School, and
8Harlan High School before furthering her studies at Olive
9Harvey College; she married Lawrence Bryant, and they had one
10daughter, Lauren Bryant; she later selflessly adopted five
11children as her own, Katelin, James, Xavier, Rose, and Davis;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Deborah Bryant made impactful contributions
14throughout her professional career at a number of esteemed
15institutions, including Cook County Hospital, Michael Reese
16Hospital, RR Donnelley Publishing, and the MetroMail
17Corporation; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Deborah Bryant resided in the Village of Hazel
19Crest for 35 years, where she became a familiar and beloved
20figure on the block of Longfellow Avenue; her vibrant spirit
21lit up every gathering, and she reveled in the joy of
22socializing, stepping, dancing, and sharing laughter with

1friends; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Deborah Bryant committed to her faith at an early
3age, and she was a member of Valley Kingdom Ministries
4International until her passing; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Deborah Bryant was known for her boundless heart,
6warmth, and kindness; she will be remembered for her radiant
7personality, nurturing spirit, and her legacy of love and
8laughter; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Deborah Bryant was the mother of six; the
10grandmother of Amir, Chase, and Chanel; the sister of Sheila
11(Jonathan) Chalmers-Currin and Jamel Hamlin; the aunt of
12Kelika Baker and Keith Scott Chalmers; the relation of a host
13of aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family; and a special
14friend of Barbara, Les, Tammy, Deni, Sarah, Greg, Larry, and
15many more; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Deborah Bryant and extend our sincere condolences to her
19family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
