2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Robert E. "Bob" Jones of Danville, who |
4 | | passed away on February 6, 2024; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, Bob Jones was born to Jewell and Julia (Foley) |
6 | | Jones in Danville on November 20, 1938 and was raised by his |
7 | | father and his stepmother, Beulah Jones; he attended Daniel |
8 | | Grade School and graduated from Danville High School in 1956, |
9 | | where he was a varsity letterman and was elected captain of the |
10 | | wrestling team; he attended Danville Junior College and |
11 | | Illinois State University in Normal; he served as a cook in the |
12 | | U.S. Army Reserves for eight years; and |
13 | | WHEREAS, Bob Jones obtained his first job at Hall Grocery |
14 | | in 1952; he then worked at Jocko's Root Beer and Putt-Putt |
15 | | Golf; he opened Country Corner Farmer's Market in 1965 and |
16 | | drove a school bus in the off season; he operated Colonial |
17 | | Parkway Restaurant from 1970 to 1995, and he later purchased a |
18 | | Dairy Queen, operating the restaurant for over 40 years; and |
19 | | WHEREAS, Bob Jones served as treasurer of the Danville |
20 | | Township Board from 1978 to 1986; he was elected as mayor of |
21 | | Danville in 1986, remaining in office until 2002; and |

1 | | WHEREAS, Bob Jones served on the Danville Economic |
2 | | Development Board and was instrumental in bringing the McLane, |
3 | | Fiberteq, Alcoa, and Sygma companies to the Danville area; he |
4 | | also served on the Danville Township CRIS Board and the |
5 | | Vermilion County Board of Health; and |
6 | | WHEREAS, Bob Jones was a member of the First Church of |
7 | | Nazarene in Danville; he was active in the Anchor Lodge and |
8 | | became a 33rd Degree Mason in 1987; through the Masonic Lodge, |
9 | | he was instrumental in bringing the Children's Dyslexia Center |
10 | | of Central Illinois to Danville; he was also a member of the |
11 | | Lion's Club for over 50 years, often participating in their |
12 | | chili dinners, and a member of the Kiwanis, where he cooked |
13 | | many pancakes for their annual breakfast; later in life, he |
14 | | officiated high school and collegiate wrestling for 21 years; |
15 | | and |
16 | | WHEREAS, Bob Jones was preceded in death by his parents; |
17 | | his brothers, John Jones and Charles Jones; and his sister, |
18 | | Juanita Holtz; and |
19 | | WHEREAS, Bob Jones is survived by his niece, Terry (John) |
20 | | Kubichan; his nephew, Deak (Debbie) Holtz; his sister-in-law, |
21 | | Charlotte Jones; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and |
22 | | his special friends, Carla Priest, Jeff Sirratt and Jim Pope; |

1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL |
2 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
3 | | Robert E. "Bob" Jones and extend our sincere condolences to |
4 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
5 | | further |
6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
7 | | presented to the family of Bob Jones as an expression of our |
8 | | deepest sympathy. |
