2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Norman Grant Jr. of Georgetown, who |
4 | | passed away on March 14, 2024; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, Norman Grant was born to Norman Grant Sr. and |
6 | | Rosalie Grant in Georgetown on October 16, 1946; he graduated |
7 | | from Georgetown High school; he served in the U.S. Army for |
8 | | four years during the Vietnam Era, and he was honorably |
9 | | discharged; he married Cynthia Groves on July 7, 2002; and |
10 | | WHEREAS, Norman Grant was a dues-paying member of the |
11 | | International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 841 |
12 | | for over 50 years until his passing, and he worked as a heavy |
13 | | machine operator for nearly 40 years; he also worked as a |
14 | | driver for Courtesy Ford; alongside his wife, Cynthia, he was |
15 | | the driving force behind Cyndi G's Catering; and |
16 | | WHEREAS, Norman Grant was a member of Second Baptist |
17 | | Church in Danville, where he served as an usher and a trustee; |
18 | | and |
19 | | WHEREAS, Norman Grant was an avid sports fan who boxed as a |
20 | | young man, played baseball in the Twilight League in Danville, |
21 | | loved roller skating, and enjoyed attending his |

1 | | grandchildren's sporting events; he also loved photography; |
2 | | after his retirement, he took pride in operating his riding |
3 | | lawn mower and fixing things with his hands; and |
4 | | WHEREAS, Norman Grant was a loving husband, father, |
5 | | father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, son-in-law, |
6 | | uncle, and brother; he will be remembered for his sense of |
7 | | humor and his sarcasm; and |
8 | | WHEREAS, Norman Grant was preceded in death by his |
9 | | parents; his sons, Jamaule David Davis, Makaiah Khan Grant, |
10 | | and Demetrious Deon Groves Sr.; and his brothers, Dennis Grant |
11 | | and Gregory Grant; and |
12 | | WHEREAS, Norman Grant is survived by his wife, Min. |
13 | | Cynthia Grant; his children, Debra (Jeff) Jones, Leland |
14 | | Groves, Eric Groves, and TaNiqua (Terrance) Howard; his |
15 | | siblings, Judy (James) Dargin, Cary (Jane) Grant, Patricia |
16 | | Johnson, Deborah Grant, Darrell Grant, and Tyrone Grant; 16 |
17 | | grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and |
18 | | nephews; his closest friends, Wayne Horne, Sylvester Ford, Joe |
19 | | Butler, and Virgil Adkinson; and five godchildren; therefore, |
