2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Keith Carl Schroeder of Springfield, | ||||||
4 | who passed away on March 8, 2024; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Keith Schroeder was born to Reuben Olaf Schroeder | ||||||
6 | and Virginia Elizabeth (McDonough) Schroeder in Springfield on | ||||||
7 | June 30, 1936; he graduated from Springfield High School in | ||||||
8 | 1954, where he was president of both his freshman and senior | ||||||
9 | classes, won nine varsity letters in football, basketball, and | ||||||
10 | baseball, was captain of all three teams as a senior, and was | ||||||
11 | was an All-City quarterback and catcher in both his junior and | ||||||
12 | senior years; he was also a member one of the five state | ||||||
13 | championship baseball teams, one of which was inducted into | ||||||
14 | the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame; he earned his Bachelor of | ||||||
15 | Arts in Economics from DePauw University in 1958, where he | ||||||
16 | minored in mathematics, served as vice president, pledge | ||||||
17 | trainer, and song leader of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity, | ||||||
18 | lettered in baseball four times, and was named an | ||||||
19 | All-Conference third baseman during his junior and senior | ||||||
20 | years; and | ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Keith Schroeder worked for Franklin Life | ||||||
22 | Insurance Company for 33 and a half years, starting in the | ||||||
23 | manager trainee program and working his way up to division |

1 | vice president of Franklin Life Insurance Company and vice | ||||||
2 | president of Franklin United and Franklin American companies; | ||||||
3 | and | ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Keith Schroeder served on the board of directors | ||||||
5 | for several charities, including the American Red Cross and | ||||||
6 | United Way; he was a member of the board of directors of the | ||||||
7 | Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce, and he was elected as | ||||||
8 | chairman in 1992; he was also one of the founding members of | ||||||
9 | Leadership Springfield, where he served as the first chairman | ||||||
10 | of its board of directors; and | ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Keith Schroeder served as president of three | ||||||
12 | bowling leagues and on the board of directors of the Greater | ||||||
13 | Springfield Bowling Association, where he was named chairman | ||||||
14 | in 1990; he was a member of the All-City Bowling Team in 1974; | ||||||
15 | and | ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Keith Schroeder loved bowling and golfing, | ||||||
17 | becoming one of only a select few to bowl a 300 game and to | ||||||
18 | make a hole-in-one in golf; and | ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Keith Schroeder was preceded in death by his | ||||||
20 | wife, Sharon; his sister, Carol Taylor; his daughter, Barbara | ||||||
21 | Cody; his step-granddaughter, Kaitlin Christy; and his | ||||||
22 | great-grandsons, Logan Roberts and Nathan Roberts; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Keith Schroeder is survived by his daughters, | ||||||
2 | Martha Blackwell and Amy (Ron) Mihalich; his grandchildren, | ||||||
3 | Eric Schroeder, Ashley Mihalich, Nicholas Mihalich, and | ||||||
4 | Jessica (Brad) Roberts; six great-grandchildren; three | ||||||
5 | great-great-grandchildren; his niece, Laura (John) Taylor; his | ||||||
6 | stepchildren, Marsha (Tim) Morgan and Lee (Gina) Ingraham; his | ||||||
7 | step-grandchildren, Megan (Chris) Antonacci, Kelsi Smole, Sean | ||||||
8 | Christy, Gianna Elliott, Milana Smith, and Heston Ingraham; | ||||||
9 | and five step-great-grandchildren; therefore, be it | ||||||
10 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
11 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
12 | Keith Carl Schroeder and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
13 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
14 | further | ||||||
15 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
16 | presented to the family of Keith Schroeder as an expression of | ||||||
17 | our deepest sympathy. |
