SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Keith Carl Schroeder of Springfield, who passed away on March 8, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Keith Schroeder was born to Reuben Olaf Schroeder and Virginia Elizabeth (McDonough) Schroeder in Springfield on June 30, 1936; he graduated from Springfield High School in 1954, where he was president of both his freshman and senior classes, won nine varsity letters in football, basketball, and baseball, was captain of all three teams as a senior, and was was an All-City quarterback and catcher in both his junior and senior years; he was also a member one of the five state championship baseball teams, one of which was inducted into the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame; he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from DePauw University in 1958, where he minored in mathematics, served as vice president, pledge trainer, and song leader of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity, lettered in baseball four times, and was named an All-Conference third baseman during his junior and senior years; and

WHEREAS, Keith Schroeder worked for Franklin Life Insurance Company for 33 and a half years, starting in the manager trainee program and working his way up to division vice president of Franklin Life Insurance Company and vice president of Franklin United and Franklin American companies; and

WHEREAS, Keith Schroeder served on the board of directors for several charities, including the American Red Cross and United Way; he was a member of the board of directors of the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce, and he was elected as chairman in 1992; he was also one of the founding members of Leadership Springfield, where he served as the first chairman of its board of directors; and

WHEREAS, Keith Schroeder served as president of three bowling leagues and on the board of directors of the Greater Springfield Bowling Association, where he was named chairman in 1990; he was a member of the All-City Bowling Team in 1974; and

WHEREAS, Keith Schroeder loved bowling and golfing, becoming one of only a select few to bowl a 300 game and to make a hole-in-one in golf; and

WHEREAS, Keith Schroeder was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon; his sister, Carol Taylor; his daughter, Barbara Cody; his step-granddaughter, Kaitlin Christy; and his great-grandsons, Logan Roberts and Nathan Roberts; and

WHEREAS, Keith Schroeder is survived by his daughters, Martha Blackwell and Amy (Ron) Mihalich; his grandchildren, Eric Schroeder, Ashley Mihalich, Nicholas Mihalich, and Jessica (Brad) Roberts; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; his niece, Laura (John) Taylor; his stepchildren, Marsha (Tim) Morgan and Lee (Gina) Ingraham; his step-grandchildren, Megan (Chris) Antonacci, Kelsi Smole, Sean Christy, Gianna Elliott, Milana Smith, and Heston Ingraham; and five step-great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Keith Carl Schroeder and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Keith Schroeder as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
