SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Keith Carl Schroeder of Springfield,
4who passed away on March 8, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Keith Schroeder was born to Reuben Olaf Schroeder
6and Virginia Elizabeth (McDonough) Schroeder in Springfield on
7June 30, 1936; he graduated from Springfield High School in
81954, where he was president of both his freshman and senior
9classes, won nine varsity letters in football, basketball, and
10baseball, was captain of all three teams as a senior, and was
11was an All-City quarterback and catcher in both his junior and
12senior years; he was also a member one of the five state
13championship baseball teams, one of which was inducted into
14the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame; he earned his Bachelor of
15Arts in Economics from DePauw University in 1958, where he
16minored in mathematics, served as vice president, pledge
17trainer, and song leader of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity,
18lettered in baseball four times, and was named an
19All-Conference third baseman during his junior and senior
20years; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Keith Schroeder worked for Franklin Life
22Insurance Company for 33 and a half years, starting in the
23manager trainee program and working his way up to division

1vice president of Franklin Life Insurance Company and vice
2president of Franklin United and Franklin American companies;
3and
 
4    WHEREAS, Keith Schroeder served on the board of directors
5for several charities, including the American Red Cross and
6United Way; he was a member of the board of directors of the
7Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce, and he was elected as
8chairman in 1992; he was also one of the founding members of
9Leadership Springfield, where he served as the first chairman
10of its board of directors; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Keith Schroeder served as president of three
12bowling leagues and on the board of directors of the Greater
13Springfield Bowling Association, where he was named chairman
14in 1990; he was a member of the All-City Bowling Team in 1974;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, Keith Schroeder loved bowling and golfing,
17becoming one of only a select few to bowl a 300 game and to
18make a hole-in-one in golf; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Keith Schroeder was preceded in death by his
20wife, Sharon; his sister, Carol Taylor; his daughter, Barbara
21Cody; his step-granddaughter, Kaitlin Christy; and his
22great-grandsons, Logan Roberts and Nathan Roberts; and

1    WHEREAS, Keith Schroeder is survived by his daughters,
2Martha Blackwell and Amy (Ron) Mihalich; his grandchildren,
3Eric Schroeder, Ashley Mihalich, Nicholas Mihalich, and
4Jessica (Brad) Roberts; six great-grandchildren; three
5great-great-grandchildren; his niece, Laura (John) Taylor; his
6stepchildren, Marsha (Tim) Morgan and Lee (Gina) Ingraham; his
7step-grandchildren, Megan (Chris) Antonacci, Kelsi Smole, Sean
8Christy, Gianna Elliott, Milana Smith, and Heston Ingraham;
9and five step-great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Keith Carl Schroeder and extend our sincere condolences to his
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Keith Schroeder as an expression of
17our deepest sympathy.
