SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Gustav "Gus" Carl Jr. of Pekin, who
4passed away on February 24, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gus Carl was born in Youngstown, Ohio to Gustav
6Sr. and Madeline E. (Musshafen) Carl on June 25, 1929; he
7served in the U.S. Army; he married Marian E. Friedrich in
8Pekin on May 26, 1957; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Gus Carl worked at Soldwedel-Borden Dairy until
10he purchased what is now Carl & Nichols Shell in 1959; he
11retired from day-to-day operations at the age of 80; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Gus Carl was a member of St. Paul's United Church
13of Christ in Pekin, where he had served as an usher; he was a
14lifetime member of the Elks; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Gus Carl was a kind and considerate man, who
16enjoyed talking to both the young and old alike; he liked
17fishing with his buddies, softball, and football; he was a fan
18of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Bears; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Gus Carl was preceded in death by his parents;
20his brother, Walter; and his sister, Irene Oertel; and

1    WHEREAS, Gus Carl is survived by his wife of almost 67
2years, Marian; his son, Steven (Julie) Carl; his
3grandchildren, Austin, Rachel, Sarah, and Samuel Carl; and his
4sisters, Gertrude Nichols and Margaret Fredrick; therefore, be
5it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8Gustav "Gus" Carl Jr. and extend our sincere condolences to
9his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
10further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Gus Carl as an expression of our
13deepest sympathy.
