SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Martin M. Offergeld of Moline, who
4passed away on February 8, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Martin Offergeld was born to Martin C. and Julia
6Battaglia Offergeld in LaSalle on September 23, 1933; he
7graduated from Colorado College, where he was a member of
8Kappa Sigma Fraternity and lettered in football; he served in
9the U.S. Army for two years; he married Sandra R. Thomas on
10July 26, 1958; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Martin Offergeld worked in management and sales
12for MetLife for 36 years, retiring in 1994; over the course of
13his career, he qualified for the company's Million Dollar
14Round Table (MDRT) four times; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Martin Offergeld was a member of Christ the King
16Catholic Church, where he was a lector and a minister of the
17Eucharist; he was a past member of the Rock Island and Moline
18Rotary Clubs and the Knights of Columbus; he was a founding
19member of the Quad Cities Table Tennis Club in Davenport,
20Iowa; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Martin Offergeld enjoyed golfing and playing

1tennis, table tennis, and pinochle; he competed in golf, table
2tennis, and basketball in the Senior Olympics for 24 years; he
3earned numerous awards in table tennis singles and doubles in
4five national tournaments; he was selected as Athlete of the
5Year by Prairie State Games in 1999 and inducted into the
6Prairie State Games Hall of Fame in 2003; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Martin Offergeld was a fan of the Chicago Cubs,
8the Chicago Bears, the Chicago Bulls, and the Fighting Illini;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Martin Offergeld was preceded in death by his
11wife and his parents; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Martin Offergeld is survived by his children,
13Lori Offergeld, Martin T. Offergeld, Leslie Offergeld, and
14Michael Offergeld, and his grandchildren, David Elovitz and
15Anna Elovitz; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Martin M. Offergeld and extend our sincere condolences to his
19family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
