2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Ralph F. Coomes of Moline, who passed |
4 | | away on February 3, 2024; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, Ralph Coomes was born to John and Fannie |
6 | | (Ridenour) Coomes in Evansville, Indiana on July 7, 1925; he |
7 | | served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945; he graduated from |
8 | | Bosse High School in Evansville in 1946; he married Lucille |
9 | | Lawson in Litchfield on June 21, 1948, and she preceded him in |
10 | | death in 2005 after 57 years of marriage; and |
11 | | WHEREAS, Ralph Coomes was a salesman for Newberry's, |
12 | | Goodyear, and then Reflex Fitness Products in Milan, retiring |
13 | | in 2013; and |
14 | | WHEREAS, Ralph Coomes was a member of Grace Bible |
15 | | Fellowship, VFW Post 2153, and the Friends Circle Club, |
16 | | Moline; and |
17 | | WHEREAS, Ralph Coomes was proud to attend an Honor Flight |
18 | | in 2010; he was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs; and |
19 | | WHEREAS, Ralph Coomes was preceded in death by his |
20 | | parents; his daughter, Karen Woods; his grandson, Steven |

5 | | Johnson, Jody (Steven) Kern, Tim (Jodie) Askam, Kim (Ryan) |
6 | | Woodward, and Kyle (Laura Poffenbarger James) Coomes; his |
7 | | great-grandchildren, Brenon Wilson, Alex Kern, Jacob Kern, |
8 | | Garret Johnson, Henry Woodward, Lucy Woodward, Owen Woodward, |
9 | | Taylor (Trevor) O'Neill, Chelsey (Mike) Krocza, Kendal Gruman, |
10 | | Julia DePriest, and Jarod DePriest; and his |
11 | | great-great-grandchildren, Reid Krocza, Dane Krocza, Olivia |
12 | | O'Neill, and Jackson O'Neill; therefore, be it |
13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL |
14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
15 | | Ralph F. Coomes and extend our sincere condolences to his |
16 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
17 | | further |
18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
19 | | presented to the family of Ralph Coomes as an expression of our |
20 | | deepest sympathy. |
