SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Melissa Katherine Bowie of Chicago,
4who passed away on January 25, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Melissa Bowie was born to Sallie and Bill Bowie
6in Grand Rapids, Michigan on September 17, 1975; she graduated
7from Forest Hills Northern High School in 1993; she received a
8Bachelor of Arts from Vanderbilt University in 1997 and a
9Juris Doctor from Catholic University of America in 2003; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Melissa Bowie built an influential career
11lobbying federal and state governments, most recently for
12Takeda Pharmaceuticals; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Melissa Bowie was deeply committed to her faith
14and encouraged others as well, with handwritten notes, gifts
15of devotionals, and deep emotional connections; she was an
16active member of Park Community Church; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Melissa Bowie created joyful opportunities for
18travel with her loved ones, visiting France, Israel, Turkey,
19and Peru; she was an avid golfer, skier, and sailor; she loved
20dressing up on Halloween, hosting annual Christmas cookie
21parties, and doting on her dog, Lulu; and

1    WHEREAS, Melissa Bowie was a fiercely loyal daughter,
2sister, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend, and she always
3prioritized her relationships with her loved ones; her
4presence brought joy, creativity, and adventure to every
5encounter; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Melissa Bowie was preceded in death by her
7grandmother, Julia Honaker Hibbitt, and her grandfather, Jack
8Montgomery Bowie; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Melissa Bowie is survived by her parents; her
10grandmother, Janice Justice Bowie; her brothers, Ryan
11Montgomery (Kristen) Bowie and Sean Nicholas (Emily) Bowie;
12and her nieces and nephews, Lillian Summers "Lily" Bowie,
13Grace Katherine Bowie, William Ryan "Liam" Bowie, Virginia
14Prescott Bowie, Dorothy Hanson Bowie, Thomas Montgomery Bowie,
15and Bryce William Bowie; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Melissa Katherine Bowie and extend our sincere condolences to
19her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
