2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Gary E. Cooper Sr. of Aledo, who |
4 | | passed away on November 6, 2023; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, Gary Cooper was born in Moline to Clair and Mary |
6 | | Bonynge Cooper on November 30, 1932; he graduated from Aledo |
7 | | High School in 1950; he served in the United States Army and |
8 | | was stationed in Germany; he married Leota Bogart at the |
9 | | Presbyterian Church in Millersburg on June 1, 1958; and |
10 | | WHEREAS, Gary Cooper worked at Olsen Lumber Yard in Aledo, |
11 | | the Brickyard in Shell City, the Taylor Ridge Elevator, and |
12 | | Farmers Grain and Coal in Aledo, where he retired after 27 |
13 | | years; and |
14 | | WHEREAS, Gary Cooper was a charter member at the New Life |
15 | | Assembly of God Church, where he served in many capacities; he |
16 | | was also a member of the Mercer County Farm Bureau; and |
17 | | WHEREAS, Gary Cooper enjoyed gardening, doing yard work, |
18 | | latch hooking, jigsaw puzzles, word searches, and spoiling his |
19 | | grandkids; he also loved going to his son's dairy farm in |
20 | | Wisconsin; and |

1 | | WHEREAS, Gary Cooper was preceded in death by his parents; |
2 | | his great-granddaughter, Terra Alexander; his son-in-law, |
3 | | Michael Bertelsen; his mother and father-in-law, Cecil and |
4 | | Helen Bogart; and his brothers-in-law, Keith and David Bogart; |
5 | | and |
6 | | WHEREAS, Gary Cooper is survived by his wife, Leota; his |
7 | | son, Gary E. (Julie) Cooper Jr.; his daughter, Karen |
8 | | Bertelsen; his grandchildren, Brooke Cooper, Morgan Cooper, |
9 | | Dale (Amanda) Biddle, Cheryl Baker, Michelle (Adam) Carle, and |
10 | | Sarah Gilmour; his step-grandchildren, Derek (Nelson |
11 | | Capetillo) Bertelsen and Jackie (Kyle) Leng; his |
12 | | great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Dillon, Payton, Kourtney, Eve, |
13 | | Tyler, Bella, Mary, Maria, and Lucy; his |
14 | | step-great-grandchild, Lynnux; his brothers-in-law, Wilbur |
15 | | (Charlotte) Bogart and James (Linda) Bogart; his |
16 | | sister-in-law, Elouise Larson; and many nieces and nephews; |
