SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Joshua "Josh" Basala, who passed away on November 1, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Josh Basala was born to Rian and Joni Basala in Rock Island on December 28, 1976; he attended Roosevelt Elementary School, Willson Jr. High School, and Sherrard High School, where he excelled in basketball and football; he enlisted in the U.S. Navy through the Buddy Program in 1996; he completed basic training at Naval Station Great Lakes before undergoing training in Millington, Tennessee and later in Miramar, California, where he worked on electronics for F-18 Hornets at Naval Air Station Cecil Field; he was deployed aboard the U.S.S. Eisenhower and was soon transferred to Naval Air Station Oceana, where he served the remainder of his enlistment; he married Tiffany Johnson on April 11, 1997; and

WHEREAS, Josh Basala worked as a tinner and HVAC technician in the Quad Cities; he opened The Sneaker Vault in 2020, becoming a well-known figure in the shoe and vintage clothing community; he then started Olde Town Heating, Air, and Duct Cleaning Services in 2021; and

WHEREAS, Josh Basala coached and served in various roles for many local sports teams and leagues; he was also a member of Local 91; and

WHEREAS, Josh Basala dedicated his life to supporting his sons in their sports endeavors, cherishing every journey he made across the U.S. to attend their games and celebrating in their successes with immense pride; he will be remembered for his kindness and generosity; and

WHEREAS, Josh Basala was preceded in death by his grandparents; and

WHEREAS, Josh Basala is survived by his wife; his sons, Bailey (Brooke Nelson) Basala and Brody (Zoe McKinney) Basala; his mother and stepfather, Joni Basala and Alberto Favela; his father and stepmother, Rian Basala and Denise Basala; his brothers, Gabe (Amanda Marshall) Favela, Seth Basala, Adam (Jessica) Basala, and Brandon (Amanda) Mrazek; his stepsiblings, Adan Favela, Raul Favela, and Iceis Sindt; and his aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Joshua "Josh" Basala and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Josh Basala as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
