2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Lisa Marie Stanley of Decatur, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on November 4, 2023; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Lisa Stanley was born to Halton Robinson and | ||||||
6 | Jacqueline King in Decatur on January 20, 1965; she graduated | ||||||
7 | from Eisenhower High School and went on to study theology at | ||||||
8 | Lincoln Christian University before pursuing a degree in | ||||||
9 | workforce education and development at Southern Illinois | ||||||
10 | University; she also graduated from the Illinois Women's | ||||||
11 | Institute for Leadership Training Academy in 2005; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Lisa Stanley served as a legislative liaison for | ||||||
13 | former U.S. Representative David Phelps and worked for various | ||||||
14 | State agencies, including then-Governor Rod Blagojevich's | ||||||
15 | office and the Department of Healthcare and Family Services; | ||||||
16 | she also served as an aide to former State Senator Andy Manar | ||||||
17 | and ran his Decatur office; prior to her work in politics, she | ||||||
18 | worked at an agency that handled case-management for women | ||||||
19 | with high-risk pregnancies; and | ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Lisa Stanley was appointed to the Decatur | ||||||
21 | Township Board in 2011 and elected supervisor in 2013, | ||||||
22 | becoming the first African-American woman to hold the position |

1 | in Decatur; during her tenure, she demonstrated exemplary | ||||||
2 | leadership and a passionate pursuit of equality and fairness; | ||||||
3 | she served as township supervisor until her passing; and | ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Lisa Stanley served on boards of The Boys & Girls | ||||||
5 | Club of Decatur and Youth with a Positive Direction; she was a | ||||||
6 | dedicated member of Realm Global International Ministries; and | ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Lisa Stanley will be remembered as a role model, | ||||||
8 | a source of inspiration, and a pillar of strength; and | ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Lisa Stanley was preceded in death by her father | ||||||
10 | and her grandmother, Verneida Madison; and | ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Lisa Stanley is survived by her son, Anthony | ||||||
12 | (Jennifer) Stanley; her granddaughters, Camorre Beasley and | ||||||
13 | Zara Stanley; her mother; her brother, Charles King; her | ||||||
14 | sister, Crystal Robinson; and a host of nieces, nephews, | ||||||
15 | extended family, and friends; therefore, be it | ||||||
16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
18 | Lisa Marie Stanley and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
19 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
