SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Dr. James "Jim" Picek of Woodridge,
4who passed away on October 17, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jim Picek was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; he was
6raised in a loving home interested in hard work, sports, and
7academics, especially mathematics and statistical analytics;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, Jim Picek became a professor of psychology and
10taught at three universities, Indiana University, the
11University of Wisconsin, and DePaul University; he later
12worked for Caterpillar Inc. at its corporate headquarters in
13Peoria for 25 years; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Jim Picek retired early and pursued his life's
15passions, which included philanthropy, the culinary arts,
16travel, and living a healthy lifestyle; he also discovered he
17enjoyed running; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Jim Picek will be remembered for his strength,
19courage, humility, kindness, and love of life; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Jim Picek was preceded in death by his parents,

1Stanley and Viola Picek, and his nephew, Christopher Kelly;
2and
 
3    WHEREAS, Jim Picek is survived by his wife, Gina
4Cunningham; his children, Michael and Rasmey Picek, Katy
5Picek, and Sarah and Kurt Fairbank; his grandchildren, Blake,
6Annalise, Alexander, Audrey, Sophia, Sylvia, Josephine,
7Nathaniel, and Edward; his sister, Mary Ann Kelly, and her
8family, Stephanie and Sam Lynn; his niece and nephew-in-law,
9Sydney and Drew Criminski; his in-laws, the Brown and Husted
10families; many cousins, nieces, and nephews; and his best
11friend, Niko; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Dr. James "Jim" Picek and extend our sincere condolences to
15his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Jim Picek as an expression of our
19deepest sympathy.
