SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Paul Leroy Brumbaugh, who passed away
4on July 25, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Paul Brumbaugh was born to Esther May Van Dyke
6Brumbaugh and Benjamin Brumbaugh in Canton, Ohio on September
716, 1941; he was academically minded, committing himself to
8the study of theology, politics, history, and nature; he
9graduated from Manchester College in 1965 with a Bachelor of
10Arts in Religion and Philosophy and from Bethany Seminary in
111969 with a Master of Divinity in Pastoral Ministry; he
12married Dorothy Brumbaugh in June 1963; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Paul Brumbaugh first worked as a minister for the
14Champaign Church of the Brethren and then found a better fit as
15a counselor with the Illinois Department of Corrections
16Juvenile Division, retiring in 2000; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Paul Brumbaugh grew up attending the Church of
18the Brethren and joined the Universalist Unitarian Church of
19Joliet in 1980, where he served in many capacities, including
20as director of Religious Education and board president; he was
21very active in supporting social justice issues; and

1    WHEREAS, Paul Brumbaugh enjoyed reading, researching
2Joliet and family histories, and square dancing with his wife;
3he collected antique bottles, antique post cards and old
4books; in his later years, he was known for wearing comedic
5T-shirts, making fun of growing old; he maintained his sense
6of humor to the very end of his life; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Paul Brumbaugh was preceded in death by his
8parents; his half siblings, Mary Helen Stahl, Wilbur
9Brumbaugh, Lester Brumbaugh, Robert Brumbaugh, and Harry
10Brumbaugh; his sister, Eileen Steinbach; and his son, Martin
11Christopher Brumbaugh; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Paul Brumbaugh is survived by his wife; his
13daughter, Joy Christine McEwen; his daughter-in-law, Dawn
14Marie Brumbaugh; his grandchildren, John Joseph, Julian Randa
15V, Emily Chambers, Leo Sebastian Brumbaugh, Gabriel L.
16Brumbaugh, and Catrina Brumbaugh; his great-grandsons,
17Sullivan Randa and Gannicus Chambers; and his nieces and
18nephews; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
21Paul Leroy Brumbaugh and extend our sincere condolences to his
22family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
