2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Fred R. "Rick" Wendl of Colona, |
4 | | formerly of Erie, who passed away on October 6, 2023; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, Fred Wendl was born to Frederick and Rosemary |
6 | | (Collins) Wendl in Dubuque, Iowa on March 27, 1948; he |
7 | | graduated from Alleman High School; he enlisted in the U.S. |
8 | | Army and served two tours in Vietnam and one tour in Germany |
9 | | with the 178th Boxcar Assault Support Helicopter Company |
10 | | (ASHC); he married Judy Lannoo at St. John's Catholic Church |
11 | | in Rapids City on December 14, 1968, and they settled in Erie; |
12 | | and |
13 | | WHEREAS, Fred Wendl worked at 3M in Cordova for over 35 |
14 | | years; and |
15 | | WHEREAS, Fred Wendl proudly served as one of the original |
16 | | EMTs when the Erie Ambulance was founded, retiring as an EMTI |
17 | | after 39 years; and |
18 | | WHEREAS, Fred Wendl was a longtime member of St. Ambrose |
19 | | Catholic Church and the Denton-Schreiner American Legion Post, |
20 | | both in Erie; and |

1 | | WHEREAS, Fred Wendl enjoyed flying and even had his own |
2 | | helicopter; he was a diehard Cubs fan and an avid fisherman and |
3 | | bird watcher; he loved playing cards and games with his |
4 | | family; he was a big supporter of his children's and |
5 | | grandchildren's school activities and sports; and |
6 | | WHEREAS, Fred Wendl was preceded in death by his parents; |
7 | | his brother, Terrance "Terry" Wendl; and his parents-in-law, |
8 | | George and Mildred Lannoo; and |
9 | | WHEREAS, Fred Wendl is survived by his wife, Judy; his |
10 | | children, Paul Wendl, Cheryl (Troy) Graham, Joyce (Serg) |
11 | | Contreras, and Tim Wendl; his sister, Helene (Timothy) |
12 | | Waynick; his sister-in-law, Heidi Wendl; his aunt, Dolores |
13 | | Schiffman; his grandchildren, Elizabeth Graham, Zach, Ricky, |
14 | | and Joey Massa, Allie, Teddy, and Max Contreras, and Parker |
15 | | and Remi Wendl; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be |
16 | | it |
17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL |
18 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
19 | | Fred R. "Rick" Wendl and extend our sincere condolences to his |
20 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
