2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Leo John Wirth of Kimball, Minnesota, | ||||||
4 | who passed away on July 14, 2023; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Leo Wirth was born to Alphonse and Esther | ||||||
6 | (Sommerfeld) Wirth in Walcott, North Dakota on December 17, | ||||||
7 | 1940; as a young boy, he moved with his family to the | ||||||
8 | Bertha-Hewitt, Minnesota area; he graduated from Bertha-Hewitt | ||||||
9 | Public School in 1958 and from the University of Minnesota in | ||||||
10 | 1962; he served in the U.S. Army; he married Marilyn Thom at | ||||||
11 | Zion United Methodist Church in South Haven on August 18, | ||||||
12 | 1972; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, In 1964, Leo Wirth began his 36-year career at | ||||||
14 | Kimball Area Public Schools; he taught vocational agriculture | ||||||
15 | and science and served as vice-principal; he retired as the | ||||||
16 | athletic director in 2000; he also had short business ventures | ||||||
17 | at a pizza shop and a printing company, and he assisted | ||||||
18 | Dingmann Funeral Care with funerals and visitations; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Leo Wirth was a member of Kimball United | ||||||
20 | Methodist, where he served as treasurer, was a member of the | ||||||
21 | building committee, served pancakes with the men's group, | ||||||
22 | represented the church at the annual Methodist conference, and |

| |||||||
1 | was a mentor to many at the church and in the community; he was | ||||||
2 | a member of the Kimball Chamber of Commerce and the Kimball | ||||||
3 | Golf Club, serving multiple terms as president and in various | ||||||
4 | other positions throughout the years; he also kept score and | ||||||
5 | officiated at various sports events for Kimball Area Public | ||||||
6 | Schools; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Leo Wirth received many accolades, including | ||||||
8 | being inducted into the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of | ||||||
9 | Fame and the Kimball Hall of Fame; he was further honored by | ||||||
10 | the Kimball Area Public Schools when it renamed its high | ||||||
11 | school gymnasium as the Leo J. Wirth Gymnasium; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Leo Wirth enjoyed golfing and traveling with his | ||||||
13 | wife, and their favorite travel destinations were Chicago and | ||||||
14 | the U.K.; he loved spending time with his family, especially | ||||||
15 | his grandchildren; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Leo Wirth was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
17 | his brothers, Alvin, Richard, and Roy; his brother-in-law, Wes | ||||||
18 | Truax; his nephew, Brian Truax; his godchild, Shellie Trimble; | ||||||
19 | and his family friend, Siow-Fang Khoo; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Leo Wirth is survived by his wife; his daughters, | ||||||
21 | Tamara (Antwan Conley) Jones and Jennifer (Brian Miller) | ||||||
22 | Wirth; his grandchildren, Eurielle, Zacchaeus, Danny, Emily, |

1 | Kenny, and Ally; his siblings, Allen (Carla) Wirth, Leona | ||||||
2 | Truax, and Edith Brasel; his sister-in-law, Brenda Wirth; his | ||||||
3 | nieces and nephews; and his other family members and friends; | ||||||
4 | therefore, be it

5 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
6 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
| ||||||
7 | Leo John Wirth and extend our sincere
condolences to his | ||||||
8 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved
him; and be it | ||||||
9 | further
| ||||||
10 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
| ||||||
11 | presented to the family of Leo Wirth as an expression of
