SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of William Nelson "Bill" Elliott of
4Altoona, Iowa, formerly of Aledo, who passed away on September
512, 2023; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Bill Elliott was born to Rufus and Ellen
7(Leonard) Elliott in Aledo on July 19, 1936; he graduated from
8Reynolds High School in 1954; he married Mary Jansen on June
920, 1959; he was drafted into the U.S. Army in September 1959,
10and he served in the 1st Cavalry Division, 8th Cavalry Battle
11Group in Korea; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Bill Elliott worked as a farmer who raised hogs
13and cattle and grew corn, beans, and later tomatoes; he
14retired from farming in 2008; he went on to work at Martin
15Grain and then at Big River until he and his wife moved from
16Reynolds to Pella, Iowa in July 2020 to be closer to their
17daughter and son-in-law; they then moved to Altoona, Iowa in
18April 2023; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Bill Elliott was a member of the Buffalo Prairie
20Presbyterian Church, the Kaaba Shriners, Buffalo Prairie
21Masonic Lodge #679, and American Legion Post 1166 in Reynolds;

1    WHEREAS, Bill Elliott enjoyed farming, camping, hunting,
2traveling, snowmobiling, flying, going to sporting events, and
3playing jokes on people; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Bill Elliott is survived by his wife of 64 years;
5his daughter, Kris (Judd) Keuning; his sister, Carolyn (Larry)
6Manley; his sister-in-law, Agnes Howell; his brothers-in-law,
7Terry (Nedra) Lee and Bill (Maxine) Jansen; and many nieces,
8nephews, and "adopted" children; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11William Nelson "Bill" Elliott and extend our sincere
12condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
13him; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Bill Elliott as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
