SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Edith C. Irwin of Springfield, who
4passed away on August 4, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Edith Irwin was born to Floyd and Lettie May
6(Jackson) Fanning in Perry, Missouri on December 14, 1923; she
7graduated from Perry High School and Gem City Business
8College, both in 1941; she married John H. Irwin at the Perry
9Christian Church in May 1949; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Edith Irwin worked as a secretary for the
11Illinois Public Health Department in Macomb from 1942 until
12she was transferred to the Springfield office in 1946; once in
13Springfield, she co-founded, along with Evelyn Brandt, the
14Rural Youth organization for Sangamon County, providing
15meeting opportunities for single men and women who shared a
16common interest in agriculture; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Along with her husband, Edith Irwin led the
18Pleasant Plains Clovers 4-H Club for 33 years; she volunteered
19as a judge for numerous 4-H county fairs throughout the years;
20she was a great supporter of the IL Cooperative Extension
21programs through the University of Illinois College of
22Agriculture and the Sangamon County 4-H program,; and

1    WHEREAS, Edith Irwin served as a Sunday school teacher and
2Vacation Bible School supervisor at Peter Cartwright Methodist
3Church and Farmingdale Presbyterian Church for many years; she
4was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for 30 years;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Edith Irwin was an avid cook who won two Illinois
7State Fair blue ribbons for her cakes; she also enjoyed
8campaigning for political candidates; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Edith Irwin was preceded in death by her husband;
10her parents; her son, Scott Irwin; her sisters, Georgie Belshe
11and Mary Cox; and her brothers, Thomas Fanning and Frank
12Fanning; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Edith Irwin is survived by her daughter, Cathy
14(Thomas) Schwartz; her son, Peter (Kathy) Irwin; her
15grandchildren, Jacquelyn (Alec) Windle, James Schwartz, and
16Samantha Irwin; and her great-grandchild, Lincoln Windle;
17therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Edith C. Irwin and extend our sincere condolences to her
21family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
