SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Vernon L. "Red" Blackert Jr. of
4Prophetstown, who passed away on August 25, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Red Blackert was born to Vernon Sr. and Alice
6(Pratt) Blackert in Tampico on February 12, 1933; he graduated
7from Annawan High School in 1951; he married Betty Jane
8Blackert on August 31, 1952; he served in the U.S. Army; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Red Blackert founded his own construction
10company, where he worked for the remainder of his life; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Red Blackert was very active in the Hooppole
12American Legion and the Annawan School Board; he was a member
13of Zion United Methodist Church in Hooppole; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Red Blackert enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseback
15riding, and camping on his family's property; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Red Blackert was preceded in death by his
17parents; his wife; his daughter, Pam Kostner; his
18great-grandson, Noah DeRycke; his brother, Jerry Blackert; and
19his many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and

1    WHEREAS, Red Blackert is survived by his children, Cheryl
2(John) DeRycke, Kirk (friend, Ann Hutchinson) Blackert, and
3Angela (Dean) Cantrell; his grandchildren, Cory (Michelle)
4DeRycke, Adam (Hope) DeRycke, Dusty (Jill) DeRycke, Jacob
5Cantrell, Seth Cantrell, Ethan Cantrell, Matt Kostner, and
6Lisa Marshall; his great-grandchildren, Nathan DeRycke, Rachel
7DeRycke, Kyla DeRycke, Katelyn DeRycke, Claire DeRycke,
8Caroline DeRycke, Cordelia DeRycke, Rayne Marshall, C.J.
9Kostner, and Annabella Kostner; and his siblings, Ralph
10(MaryAnn) Blackert, Walter Blackert, Adria Kleckner, and Linda
11Billiet; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Vernon L. "Red" Blackert Jr. and extend our sincere
15condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
16him; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Red Blackert as an expression of our
19deepest sympathy.
