2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Ronald P. Staes of Moline, who passed |
4 | | away on August 20, 2023; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Ronald Staes was born to Frank and Myrtle Staes |
6 | | in Moline on July 13, 1947; he graduated from Moline High |
7 | | School and received a degree from St. Ambrose University in |
8 | | 1974; he served for four years in the U.S. Air Force, earning |
9 | | the Bronze Star Medal for his service in Vietnam; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Ronald Staes served as the Moline Police |
11 | | Department's first D.A.R.E. officer from 1991 to 2004; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Ronald Staes received the Moline Police |
13 | | Department's highest honor, the Medal of Honor, for rescuing |
14 | | two children from a burning home in 1989; he also received the |
15 | | Americanism Award and was named the State of Illinois Law |
16 | | Officer of the Year in 1993 and the Moline Police Department's |
17 | | Police Officer of the Year in 1992; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Ronald Staes was a life member of various |
19 | | organizations, including the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge |
20 | | 77 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars; he served as president of |
21 | | the Filipino-American Association Iowa-Illinois Region; he was |
